I believe there are two ways to transfer data from Acestry.com. You can create a Gedcom of one of the trees and download into a new AQ file. Then you have to compare the two files and merge individuals. Second is purchase Family Tree Maker from Ancestry.com because they communicate with each other. I have never done this but that is what FTM advertises. This winter I created some family trees on Ancestry for each of my grandparents. I uploaded a GedCom file for each grandparent from my PAF file. ? I made four trees because of the way I have my databases organized but the main reason is because each one of my grandparents has a different heritage (Sweden, Canada and the British Isles, Netherlands/Germany, and Quaker from American colonies and the British Isles). ? It has been fun searching for the various documents available on Ancestry. It has been exciting to see?new sources that I found to support my data and to increase my knowledge about these family members. Of course I also have added the sources which I already had in my PAF database. ? Now I am wondering how I can add these sources to my PAF or to my Ancestral Quest databases. ? Do?I need to buy Ancestry's computer software to sync between my online family trees and my databases. ? I already use Ancestral Quest to sync between my databases and Family Tree to add the ordinance dates and temples codes. ? Have any of you worked on this type of task with an online tree on the Ancestry website? ? I am interested in hearing from some of you. ? Thanks for your time. Looking forward to your insights and sharing of your experiences. ? You might be able to save the documents right to your computer, but I cannot remember. You won't be able to sync your Ancestry Tree unless you use Family Tree Maker which does not sync with Family Tree or new.FamilySearch.org. See http://ancestry.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/473/kw/download%20GEDCO M for instructions. You can also upload your GEDCOM to Pedigree Resource File and compare the names with the ones in Family Tree. See https://familysearch.org/search / Genealogies / Submit Tree at the bottom of the page. Ann A. On 5/21/2013 2:58 PM, Mary S. I have shared my genealogical information with other?people for almost 40 years. (I have also helped a lot of other people research their own families. ? Also, as I gather the documents and sourcing, I put the information onto Family Tree and New FamilySearch -- so there is no charge for people who want to see my research there. ? Plus the Trees on Ancestry gives?us a place to protect research efforts away from home. For one thing, I keep my trees "private" because I want to be sure they are documented properly. (However, many other researchers see the document sources from my research and have added them to their own trees.) ? There are many good things about Ancestry which I appreciate -- just because they are a paid subscription website doesn't make them all "bad". ? If Family Tree had the same abilities and possibilities right now, then I would have done my tasks there. ? Family Tree and the related sites on http://www.familysearch.org/ are actually a few steps behind what I needed. ? There really is a method to my "madness" and we all have the choice where we spend our money. ? Besides many aspects of the Ancestry website are available for free for patrons using the Family History Library, Family History Centers, and public libraries. ? There are many of us who live hundreds of miles from the Family History Library and Ancestry brought information into our homes. We can check the records for many places and save a lot of money we would have paid for microfilms to be sent to the FHC. We save travel time and gasoline costs (as well as babysitting fees) since we don't have to go to the FHC. Furthermore, we can research over the Internet at home in our slippers. ? Many of us are lucky to have a few hours in the Family History Library every five or ten years. Whereas there are hundreds of people?near Salt Lake City?who could and should use the free resources at the Family History Library and don't. ? So back to my question -- anyone know how to properly sync between my genealogy software on my home computer and the Trees on Ancestry? ? One year with my subscription to Ancestry.com they gave a free copy of Family Tree Maker...It was the 2005 version and I never used it, but came across it just a couple of days ago. You might ask Ancestry about it.
