    1. [LDS-WC] New system at the temple
    2. Supposedly copying a successful program in use at the San Diego Temple, the Newport Beach temple has initiated a stake temple file where patrons can leave their printed cards for others to do. It is freely accessed by patrons in a bureau in the foyer. Rather than take temple issued name slips, patrons can do family names for others in their stake. While on the surface, this sounds like a nice idea, it seems to me to undo the "first come first serve" plan when folks submit names to the temple file which they or their own family cannot finish. Since we have a small temple, the volume of names which will be served by the temple file will decrease dramatically. This, coupled with the fact that we know that names are directed to the closest temple of the submitter, seems contrary to the whole FamilySearch temple system. I am personally frustrated as I have 600+ names waiting in line in the FamilySearch temple file to be served and I played by the rules. How are they getting away with this? Is it happening at any other temples? Michele

    3. In our Temple in Las Vegas, we have had a family file drawer for a long time. Granted, we are a large temple, and I can understand your concerns for your small temple, but the patrons really like it. 3. People who have a lot of family file cards are expected to release them to be available for all temples to get done. The only advantage of hoarding them is an ego trip. bj ----- Original Message ----- From: "Megan Smith" <msgen@earthlink.net> To: <lds-ward-consultant@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 15, 2013 8:33 AM Subject: Re: [LDS-WC] New system at the temple > In our Temple in Las Vegas, we have had a family file drawer for a long > time. 3. All family files and cards at the temple unless taken there personally to do the work have been foirbidden in the temples that I know of. I used to take 4 or 500 baptism cards and 800 or so sealings cards per week to the Salt Lake Temple and would pick them up the next week and leave a batch for the next week. This worked well and everyone seemed pleased about it. In January of 2011 this was supposed to be stopped entirely on a temple-wide basis. Any names for the temple to do were to come in through the system and not through individuals leaving them at the temple. This is strictly enforced in Salt Lake, Jordan River, and Oquirrh temples and I thought strictly enfored temple wide but now find that is not the case. My temple-shared names number more than 4,000 in the backlog--many from 2010. Most of these are children to parent sealings and male endowments. Baptisms and sealing to spouse seem to go very quickly. Others go very, very slowly. Female endowments about 5 to 6 months, male endowments about a year. I am puzzled why the children to parents sealings take so long--some from 2 years ago. The idea behind this was to make patrons use the system to send names to the temple. I have followed this strictly for 2 years. If I can do something else to get them done more quickly, it would be great. BUT I am trying to follow the guidelines which were certainly strict starting in 2011. In fact, shortly after this went into effect and was clearly stated to temple workers not to do, a temple worker did take names and attempt to leave them and was severely reprimanded for not follow the protocol. 3. Why create a new bucket system? - Especially one that is paper-driven. The Provo Temple is serving 80 stakes. How many drawers will this approach take there? How long will it take to find cards that are filed in the wrong stake drawer/box? Isn't this really yesterday's approach? We're computerized now - let's run with that approach. Wouldn't it equalize the speed and perceived fairness, by using the new "Share" button and sharing our submitted names with all Temples - and not having them sidelined to the one where we happen to live? That way - all submitted names will be completed in the order in which they were submitted. All Temple goers and "name submitters" would have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping out fellow Church members around the world - by doing the work and by providing names for the Temple coupled with the quiet satisfaction of seeing that their names are getting done. Let's equalize the flow - otherwise we'll all have to move to Provo if we want to ever see our names completed. 3. This was done in Hamilton Temple, New Zealand in the 90's but it has stopped now. I don't know why. perhaps because of the introduction of NFS David ----- Original Message ----- From: <JCBrooks@aol.com> To: <LDS-WARD-CONSULTANT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 15, 2013 6:55 PM Subject: [LDS-WC] New system at the temple > Supposedly copying a successful program in use at the San Diego Temple, > the > Newport Beach temple has initiated a stake temple file where patrons can > leave their printed cards for others to do.
