    3. Personal genealogy software PAF and other similar records manager apps are valuable to provide individuals with a way to store their pedigree with its associated notes, sources and incidental information. There are no plans to further develop PAF, however there are also free and inexpensive third party applications that can be used as a replacement for PAF. These third party apps are regularly updated with new features and enhancements. For more information regarding third party apps go to https://familysearch.org/products. PAF is no longer available for purchase on Compact Disc, and although it is still available for download, we strongly recommend using a third party product as suggested above. New.FamilySearch.org New.FamilySearch.org is a web based family tree that enables people to share and work together on common ancestral lines. In April 2013, FamilySearch introduced FamilySearch Family Tree to replace New.FamilySearch.org. Several third party products (mentioned above) support New.FamilySearch.org integration, and vital data from New.FamilySearch.org will be also then available in FamilySearch Family Tree. Personal genealogy software and FamilySearch Family Tree together Given that PAF does not directly integrate with FamilySearch Family Tree, and New.FamilySearch.org is to be discontinued at a future point, we will be providing solutions for PAF users to be able to take full advantage of FamilySearch Family Tree. This solution will be announced as soon as possible. -----Original Message----- From: lds-ward-consultant-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:lds-ward-consultant-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Donna McNamara Sent: Monday, June 10, 2013 4:29 PM To: lds-ward-consultant@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LDS-WC] PAF 5 Why are we not recommending PAF downloads at this time. 3. Given, that many dozens of thousands of Church members still use PAF, teaching PAF makes a lot of sense. New users should probably invest the time in other software, but for the thousands of existing users, don't expect them to change, they won't. I have a paid copy of Roots Magic on my computers, have had it for years, buy a new license every time I need to. But I use PAF, I'll continue to use PAF (And Family Insight), and will till they stop working. If PAF ever does stop working, you'll see a large drop off in family history work... Why? Cause that's the way human minds operate, whether we like it or not. You can not do family history without a personal database program, and PAF is the easiest I've found, and that makes it, essential.
