Just so I'm being clear on this, I agree with Renee also. My point was/is, I won't switch until I have to. I have the "new" software, I'll use it when I have to. But dozens of thousands of people won't. As in "will not".. I have been working with computers since 1968. I have supported dozens of fortune 500 businesses. I currently support General Electric. Most software users never upgrade anything until they are forced to, and then it's kicking and screaming. Same thing for most companies.. A tiny fraction of LDS consultants are on these forums, a minute fraction of Family History software users are on these forums. We are the ones who will change. We are the ones who are aware of the issues. All I'm saying is that we will leave behind many people when PAF no longer functions. I am NOT saying that is a good thing, I'm saying we taught a generation of people how to do their family history (with PAF), and now technology is taking that away. Many of them will simply stop. I cou! ld give you a thousand examples, but I'm done. The world is what it is, and people as a group act predictably. I think as far as most users are concerned, we are re-creating the tower of Babel here... Maybe 5% of users want bells and whistles, 95% want simplicity... PAF was my first and only software since its beginning. Last year after attending the RootsTech Conferene in Salt Lake and visiting a few minutes with Gaylon Findlay; original writer of PAF and more recently his new software Ancestral Quest; I switched to AQ. Their basic version is free and they offer a variety of video presentations. It has many 'bell & whistles' you will like. I did purchase the upgrade of AQ and love it!! Third party software is here and as said learning to use the newer ones will be to our advantage. T hank you Rene e for your informative post!! Leslie Pierce Royce
