For those of you who do not subscribe to the Ancestry Insider blog, there was an article posted yesterday that quotes a new information in the help pages on FamilySearch Labs. It states the church is going to make Family Tree available with read-only access to church members on the Wasatch Front in order to reduce duplication in temple work until NFS is totally rolled out. It gives this quote from the help pages of FamilySearch Labs: "The Family Tree project is replacing the International Genealogical Index (IGI) as a resource to verify that temple ordinances are complete. . At first, as the Family Tree project is made available to Church members along the Wasatch Front, those members will have read-only access.. Members will not be able to change data or clear names for submission to the temple using the Family Tree project." The entire article is available at: http://ancestryinsider.blogspot.com/2009/05/family-tree-project-to-eliminate-temple.html<http://ancestryinsider.blogspot.com/2009/05/family-tree-project-to-eliminate-temple.html> The article also stated that there was no indication of when this access will start. I think this is fantastic news for those of us on the Wasatch Front. As a family history consultant, I have hated trying to teach newbies how to use PAF Insight and the old temple ready system to search for completed ordinances, when they are just learning PAF and with newFamilySearch just on the horizon. I wonder, though, if we will have the capacity to combine duplicates, since the ordinance might show in some duplicates but not others; and since the current version of Family Tree will allow that function but not other corrections. I wonder if anyone else has heard of this upcoming release, and can tell us any more about it? Doris Bateman, Ogden Temple District
you left out the very important piece of information: "For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints without access to New FamilySearch (NFS), read-only access to the Family Tree project of FamilySearch Labs will eliminate duplication of temple ordinances of Church members’ ancestors." I am glad to have read this Ancestry blog link. Does this apply to EVERYONE .. or just those in the Temple districts? It would make sense if it applied to everyone in Utah. I imagine that the account we set up to use FamilySearch Labs will work with nFS when the bugs are worked out. Alan, Ogden Temple District On Tue, May 26, 2009 at 8:44 AM, W.
