I ran across a REALLY strange situation yesterday... I was trying to help a sister missionary at the Family History Library Her (deceased) brother was a member of the Church in another country. His name did not come up in a search. I tried different variations on his Spanish name (both last names).. I suspect that a membership record got lost.. but I did not quiz the sister about her knowledge of her brother's death. Might it be that the record is not visible because the brother is still alive? Has anyone else had this problem? Alan
Alan, It is possible that his ward clerk failed to update his membership record upon his death. That would mean that the record is there but not visible to his sister, since the system still sees him as living. It might be that the death was never recorded on the the membership record. There are also cases were there was an excommunication or request to be taking of the church records. By sending the information below it will be researched and clarified. She needs to send her brother's full name, birth date and place, death date and place as well as the info for the parents and spouse(s). A digital copy of a death certificate, funeral program or obit is also needed and should be attached to the email. Instructions are in KD 104365 in the help center. It takes time to track down the whereabout of the record outside of USA and Canada. W. David Samuelsen
