    2. I am supposed to give a training to the ward council to encourage priesthood and auxiliary leaders to integrate temple and family history work into their organizations. At one point, I found a couple of great ward council training videos on this subject but I can't find them any more on lds.org. Does anyone know where they are? Michele

    3. Deanne, I've been able to use the "Add to Source Box" link on pages with images that have not been indexed. I don't know what makes them different from other unindexed images and why they don't also have the same link. Sorry if I caused confusion because I did not realize that I might be experiencing an exception to the rule. Now I'm curious as to why it works for the images I use and not for others. 3. There's a world of difference. Within the Historical Records, no index, the SourceBox' Create a Source is useless because the first line does not describe the record sufficiently, then use TreeConnect and you can edit the first line to describe what it is. Here is the difference: My Source Box - Add New York, Probate Records, 1629-1971; pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-24579-13610-49 (uneditable) TreeConnect Richard Phillips will, Chenango Co NY Will Book Vol L (editable) So which one will you use in cases of no index? 3. Oh, and by the way, to what are you adding the image if not linking it to a person? Because if you add it to Source Box as I described, all the info is filled in for you automatically and I thought that is what you were asking to do. -Terri J. PS. Maybe you should get online with support and have them show you how it works. 3. "Add Source" is meant for you to manually add a source, thus the need to fill in the boxes. If you want to use a source from your Source Box, with info pre-filled, you have to click on "Go to Source Box" instead and use what you have already added from FamilySearch. You have to be signed in to see the link to Source Box, below your name and just above the image. Unless the set of records you are looking at does not allow for adding to Source Box? I did note when I went to the link you provided, the Source Box link did not show up, but I also was not showing as signed in either. -Terri J. 3. Ok, this is getting confusing. As I wrote, it would "ALSO" be nice to link the image -- but no, that's not what I want to do for now. All I want for now is to add a source. Now, everyone is saying there is an "Add Source" button. I don't see any. I see a "Source Box" button, if I click on my name on the upper right corner. They I go to sources and of course there is not any source there yet. Then I can create a new source, and when I click there, there is a completely blank template. Nothing pre-filled. Is that how it is supposed to work? I ask because I expected something else. Such as an "Add Source" that would actually have pre-filled information about the collection I am using (in this case, https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-14863-41774-56). So that is not supposed to happen, then? That's all I need to know. I am underwhelmed by what I see, but if this is it, then I'll use it. I just want to make sure that this is it. Thanks. -----Mensagem Original----- From: Terri Jaskolka Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2013 12:34 PM To: lds-ward-consultant Subject: Re: [LDS-WC] Adding a source OK, maybe I'm not understanding what you want to accomplish. You seemed to just be concerned about adding the FS image to Source Box, so maybe I misunderstood. I'll just step through what I do when linking an image from FamilySearch to a person on Family Tree and hope that helps... I am lucky in that I have two monitors and I can open up FamilySearch Record Search on one, and Family Tree on the other, but that's not required, just makes things more convenient. Also, I am already signed in to both locations before I start. When I find a desired image in Record Search, I click on "Add to My Source Box", as previously mentioned. A little popup tells me whether or not I was successful. (If I see something that says I was unsuccessful, usually just reloading the page will fix it, but sometimes I have had to sign in again. This seems to happen after I have taken a break, so I suspect some connection has timed out for me). Next, I go over to the Personal Record in Family Tree for the individual(s) I want to link that image to. I click on Sources, which scrolls me down the page to the Sources section, and click on "Go to Source Box", opening up a list of the sources I have added. The last one I added is at the top of the list (if there is more than one source stored) and I just click on "Attach". That's all you have to do to get the image page attached to your Family Tree person(s). No filling in blanks, just a few clicks. However, I like to go back to the individual page, go back down to the Source section, where I now find a reference to the source I just added, click on that reference, then click on "Tag" and click on one or more of the choices because that will also link the source to a particular part of the person's data. For instance, if I have linked a death record, I will choose the "Death" tag, then when I click on the death date for that person, the source will also show up, attached to the death date. 3. On the person view under sources, you will see both Create a New Source AND Go to Source Box. When you go to Create a New Source from a particular person's screen, it adds it to that person. What I use and love is Tree Connect, as it adds sources from other sites, not just FamilySearch. You find it at http://recordseek.com/ Shanna Jones -----Original Message----- From: lds-ward-consultant-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:lds-ward-consultant-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jorge Todeschini Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2013 1:19 PM To: lds-ward-consultant Subject: Re: [LDS-WC] Adding a source Ok, this is getting confusing. Thanks.

    3. The "add to my source box" that you are looking for is on the indexed page of the source, NOT on the image page, nor on the first pages of possible matches when you are searching. So when you click on add to my source box it automatically creates the source with the citation all filled in for you. Your source box is a temporary holding box, you still go to the person then click on source box down in that person's sources area and then attach that source to the person. I highly recommend the best sourcing videos I have seen found on James Tanner's blog. His blog is well worth following as he creates many easy to understand videos relating to FamilySearch. See these two links: http://genealogysstar.blogspot.com/2013/04/adding-external-sources-to.html http://genealogysstar.blogspot.com/2013/04/adding-external-sources-to.html Best wishes in your endeavors. 3. OK, maybe I'm not understanding what you want to accomplish. See KFY7-CBF for an example of this. -Terri J. 3. Jorge, What you are asking for, can easily be done with Tree Connect. I first learned about from this e-list and have been using in my teaching ever since. It's fabulous! It's a free downloaded bookmarklet that works with any image online. To install it: go to recordseek.com and drag the "tree connect" icon to your bookmark bar. Once you are on the web page with image you wish to save as a source (no need to download the image and save as a photo,) click on the tree connect icon and the "create a source" automatically comes up (after you sign in with Family Search the first time you use it during that session.) The source information is automatically filled in for you- expect the description box. And it's all editable if you don't like the default information they have included. Edit any information you wish, add a description is you wish, click save. And it's created a source complete with the link to the image online and saved it to your source box. You create a single source for the image, and then can link it to all of the members of your family listed on that image. Then add in the specific information for your person when you attach the sources to Family Tree and it asks why you are attached this source. So one image is easily attached to multiple family members. As I indicated last week, and several have requested it- I have a handout about how to get Tree Connect and how to use it. Let me know and I will be happy to forward that information to you. 3. If you are adding an image (without index), do not use SourceBox. Go to RecordSeek.com and use TreeConnect feature and add it to your computer bar. Use it when you find it. You can edit the information before saving the image to the SourceBox. TreeConnecti is fully certified FamilySearch feature. In fact it is on every computer at the Family History Library now, in Firefox browser and I think Google Chrome browser but not IE. David Samuelsen

It lets you go out and come back in without having to sign in again Yay! 2 There is a new "green arrow" in the Person-Ordinances section which allows you to submit ordinances without having to go to the tree view to do so. God job guys! Michele

    3. Doris, Family Search will only create the source from the indexed page- it will not work from the actual image page. And you cannot easily edit (or cannot edit some things) when using their automatic "Add to my sources." If you wish to create a source directly from the image page, use the free bookmarklet - Tree Connect. It can be downloaded at recordseek.com . I have been using it and teaching it in classes. Most love the option of easy editing available, and the option of linking directly to the images. It works directly with Family Tree and saves the source right in your source box. For example with a census in Family Search using the automatic "add to sources" it lists the one person's name in the Title for the source. Thus the source can only be used for that person. A new source should be created for each person in the household so their own information appears on the link. For large families, that could be several new sources. With Tree Connect, you can rename the title to be XXXXXXX Family in 1940 census. Then in the "describe the record- notes" section on Tree Connect- list the information for all family members in the census. It can then be connected to all family members using only one source. And Tree Connect will work with the images found on FamilySearch (or any other website), so you don't have to be limited to the "Add to my sources" options even on their site. If you would like a handout about how to use Tree Connect, let me know as I have one I use in classes and would be happy to share it. I was going to teach it this morning! Please help! Doris Bateman ------------------------------
