    3. Is there a place on the web to ask questions, and discuss best practices for adding and editing sources in FS-FT? I have many patrons who are computer savvy, and simply want some guidance on how to add their sources to FS-FT. Many patrons are very confused about what goes where in the Sources form. For now, I am advising them to do Custom Facts and Custom Events. Then in the future when the programmers are able to get the sources form, and some sort of free-form notes working, then the custom sources can be properly entered where they belong. Don Strack

    3. Jorge, My cousin's husband just attended a reunion of missionaries who served in Brazil, they traveled to Brazil for the reunion, so I wrote to Lawana to see if her husband Phillip Palmer might know anything. This is her reply, I hope it helps with your search. These are missionaries, but perhaps they will recall the Branch Presidents also. Good luck, Betty Jo BJ, Your best bet is to contact Alfred Gunn. He has collected information on all the early Brizilian missionaries and has contact with many of them. Alfred Gunn alf.gunn@gmail.com We just spent t wo weeks with him in Brazil. 3. Do you have wifi available? Can people bring laptops? Do you have access to enough computers? I would try to make it a hands-on workshop. Show the videos, then get everyone registered and give them a chance to try out a batch. You might want some experienced helpers for when people have questions, as well. If you are not able to have the hands-on session, then I would make a presentation about what indexing is, and what it is doing. Give the big picture about how all these records can be made available online for all through the help of those participating. Emphasize that it is an aspect of family history that anyone can do, especially those who think their work is all done, or "Aunt Matilda is doing it, there's nothing I need to do". Give some examples of how much more complete (and accurate) a family record can become by tying an image to someone on Family Tree (1940 Census would be a good choice, that record could be attached to a whole family, for example). There is a nice Quick Start Guide here: http://broadcast.lds.org/eLearning/fhd/Product/en/handouts/FamilySearch_Indexing_Getting_Started.pdf but it's 30 pages and might be too much for a handout for all. -Terri J. I always think it is important for the youth leaders to come to the center or work with a knowledgable consultant and have a lesson first and then they can teach the lesson to the youth. It seems a logical approach. Only problem was, they had them put in the data, not search for the information first. And, since she didn't have a clue how to read a pedigree chart, she had everything wrong. As consultants, we have to make sure that whoever is teaching these classes, emphasize the importance of searching. I can get off my soapbox now that I've vented.

    3. in this case, it won't help because Support is swamped as it is now. type 106612 and follow the specific instructions. I already referred quite a number of cases based on 106612 instructions and I have yet to get a pest message asking for documentation. The earliest cases I referred, got all separated and straight. 3. You will need to write to FamilySearch support and give them the ID numbers you see in the combined records on new.familysearch.org that need to be separated out so the temple ordinances can be restored. See the following Document in the Help Center - I wish they would put the Document Numbers back! Ann A. A record has information for more than one person <https://familysearch.org/ask/productSupport> posted:16 Mar 2013 * There are many names in one record that need to be separated. * An incorrectly combined record contains the details and relationships of more than one person. * One record contains several different people. * My ancestor is mixed up with other people. * Separate or unmerge. Most changes can now be made in *Family Tree <https://familysearch.org/tree>. However, if in your relative's combined record found innew FamilySearch <https://new.familysearch.org/>, you can determine that there are 2 or more individuals represented, follow the steps below to detail and report the problem. 1. Find your relative in new FamilySearch 2. Record the*Person identifier*number of the person. 3. From the*Summary*tab for your relative, click*Combined records*(found at the bottom of the page) /*Note:*Each column on the Combined records screen represents a single record that was combined to create this person. Toward the bottom of the column you will find the*Person identifier*number of that record. These numbers will help you identify to us which records you want us to review./ 4. Record the*Person Identifier*numbers of each column that does NOT represent your relative and explain why. (In some cases it may be easier to tell us which columns DO represent your relative) 5. Provide your name, birthdate, Contact name, and Helper access number. (See instruction below to find your Contact name and Helper access number) 6. Send an e-mail tosupport@familysearch.org <mailto:support@familysearch.org>detailing the problem from the information you have recorded and, if possible, include (attach) a family group sheet showing the correct family structure. eg. Your relative, their spouse, children and parents. In the subject of your e-mail include a statement like "Record xxxx-xxx has information for more than one person", replacing xxxx-xxx with the identifier you recorded in step 2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *_Finding your Contact name or Helper access number:_* From the*Home*page of the new FamilySearch: 1. Click*Update My Profile and Preferences*. 2. Enter your password. 3. Scroll down to the bottom of the Profile window to view your Contact name and Helper access number. 3. I am adding the following to my personal list of Tree Tips. It is a slight revision of a message I sent a day or two ago in response to the original post on this subject. *IMPORTANT: *When combining duplicates of parents you may see duplicates of children, parents & spouse listed on each side with different ID numbers. Be sure to move all family members from the right tothe left, then continue merging duplicates of these family members until all are merged. If there are temple ordinances associated with any of the family members on the right, you cannot see them and you will loose them if you don't move everyone over so they are saved. If the ID numbers are the same you do not need to move them but it won't hurt anything if you do.** Ann A.
