I was told that a woman can be sealed to two husbands if she has children with both. As in my case my mother and father were sealed after death, but before death they were divorced and she was sealed to another man that she had 2 children with. I was given a name of my grand uncles wife, by Family Search to do the work, but in researching I found the name they had her under was her married name with her first husband and they had 3 children, and she had no children with my grand uncle, also in the research I found her maiden name, her parents and found their work and hers was done. The only thing missing is the sealing to her husband and children. So I will have that done, but not seal her to my grand uncle who has a first wife and children to be sealed to. Is that how others understand the system? The general rule is: seal children to their natural parents and seal a woman or a man to all husbands/wives after they are deceased. Basically it puts in place all possible scenarios. Everyone gets sealing blessings. The Lord and the individuals decide, with full information which we do not have on earth, who will ultimately go with who. No sealing is permanent without that ratification by the Holy Spirit of Promise. I believe that the ordinance of sealing children to parents is not totally understood. Clearly, we are not eternally children in parental homes if we are married and having families as adults. Rather, it must pertain to a linking of generations and a right to relationships in some manner as well as identification as a child/person of the covenant. A woman is always known by her maiden name in the temple. You should change and add a note about the reason for the change her second marriage to her maiden name. If there are two records, combine them as the same person so avoid redundancy in her own ordinances. She can be sealed to both husbands. Michele In a message dated 6/8/2013 4:35:18 P.M. Hi Can someone please point me in the correct direction as to how to input a name for a sister who has been married twice? This lady was married once and her husband died. I've seen that many times in the census's, my own great grandmother was called Minnie and that is on her gravestone, but her real name was Brinkamina, I never knew until I started doing genealogy and I knew her personally until I was 25 years old. My grandfather was Hamer Adams all his life, but his real name was John Hamer, never knew that until later in life. They seemed to take whatever name they liked, very confusing to the next generations. No idea of any of that at this point. It's too recent to be able to find most records, and I don't know where the family may be located at the present time...as I said they are distant cousins, and I haven't bothered to calculate what the exact relationship is. It's just gathering family into my personal program for some future reference. It sometimes pays off to have the very distant cousins, as you can compare notes once you've confirmed relationships, and possibly solve research problems with the clues that the other adds to picture puzzle. Her parents may have called her one thing, but likely she chose her middle name. She probably doesn't have a real birth certificate that early. In these cases, which are really common, I usually put "Martha or Dorine". Or "Dorine or Martha", whichever first that you think she used most in her adult life where more records like a death certifiicate, social security records, etc would be found. I use AncestralQuest to determine who I will be looking for and then use the PID# from the person after they were synced with FS. Using the PID# means you only have to fill in that one field in the FS search screen to find the individuals you are looking for. I have absolutely no problem searching in FT. If you are trying to fill in all of the blanks in the search you certainly don't need to. For me usually the name and birthdate/birthplace are adequate to find the person I am looking for. If you have that few a names in your tree it should be relatively easy to find them using the pedigree by finding how they are directly related to you and then just working on down using the place where it shows the family and click on the child you want which changes that child to the principal one and then click on their child you want and it goes to the next one. I find this relatively easy. Hi, I just wanted to thank you all for your much appreciated input to my question about how to use the search feature to limit the search only to your own ancestors. So it seems that it's not possible (at least not in FT) to limit my search to my own ancestors. This is really something that annoys me. I don't have thousands of ancestors in my own tree but a few dozens. However I often want to navigate to a specific ancestor in order to edit some information, add a child or a spouse a for any other reason. I find it most difficult to get to a specific ancestors in the tree without having the ability to search for his or her name. A data base wide search over billions of entries is not very helpful either. So how do you manage to find specific ancestors in your tree in FT? Using another software outside of FT is certainly one good way. Have any other helpful ideas? Thanks. Sebastian Buck Esslingen ward, Stuttgart Germany stake
I keep everything on PAF (but there are many other good genealogy software products). I find the PID numbers with Family Insight and update them with that resource. Makes it a lot easier to locate them on Family Tree. Once I find the right person, I can then work on the duplicates or adding new information. Until Family Tree is "perfected" it is not the primary source (for me) of my own family tree. I will do my best to support the creation of the world tree, but I feel my personal responsibility is first to my own kindred dead. I need to be satisfied that ordinances are complete for those folks. Since FT has a current habit of losing/adding people to families and losing temple data, I am comforted that I have kept a record in PAF all along. Michele In a message dated 6/4/2013 9:12:35 P.M.
