I'll be careful in what I do ... I guess I shouldn't be surprised there are names out there that just have a given name and an approximate birth date ... but it does seems strange Thank you all ________________________________ From: W David Samuelsen <dsam52@sampubco.com> To: lds-ward-consultant@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2013 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [LDS-WC] Deleting an individual ... or to prevent a mis-merge. An individual should never be deleted unless they never existed or you added the person in error. Using the example given, merge them if you are ABSOLUTELY sure it is the same person, otherwise, click "Not a Match". This way the person's record is still available for others to view and allow them to make their own decisions. This is especially true when temple work is involved. -----Original Message----- From: Phoebe Stages Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2013 9:25 AM To: lds-ward-consultant@rootsweb.com Subject: [LDS-WC] Deleting an individual ... How exciting! Of course, anything you say would be Spirit-led, but if possible, I think I would talk about the changes that have made things easier, the work behind that, the fact that it is geared more towards the younger generation and computer savvy (don't need to put it off until retirement, IOW), and include some personal accounts that you have witnessed as you worked with others. There is always some small miracle that happens as you do this, that when shared, can inspire others and confirm your testimony of the spiritual nature of the work. :) -Terri J. Here are two sets of scriptures which are encouraging and uplifting when we discuss family history and/or temple work. I love the scriptures in Doctrine and Covenants 128 where there is great rejoicing for the work in the temples. Another good section in the Doctrine and Covenants where President Joseph F. Smith saw the organization behind the veil so that the redemption of the dead could progress. President Monson reminds us that when we are on the Lord's errand we have the support of the Lord. I have seen this promise answered many times in relation to family history and temple work -- not just in my own life but in the life of others. I like to remind others that the key ingredient is love -- in any aspect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Guilt doesn't motivate very long but love motivates again and again.) Good luck to Joan with her talk. I know she will do a great job! Mary Scott Aurora, Illinois
I can't believe it. Just got a call last night and they want me to speak next week about family history! It's like a dream come true! I have been asked to talk a little bit about the doctrine, and tell the congregation how to get started with it. So if y'all have any suggestions, I will be ever so grateful! Joan in North Carolina

Yes, in rural/family cemeteries that can be a real problem, but there often some local person who knows where a lot of the graves are and mows, etc. If the cemetery is maintained at all, I'd seek out that person. The local historical society could be helpful with that. Michele In a message dated 6/14/2013 8:49:34 P.M. John Hamer Adams is my maternal Grandfather and was born in Market Lake, Idaho, Oct 5, 1901, and died in Boise, Ada County, Idaho June, 1981. The name Hamer came from the name of a town near Market Lake. Market Lake is now called Roberts, Idaho. It is near Idaho Falls, Idaho. He lived the rest of his life in Twin Falls, Idaho and died in Boise because that is where the hospital is that treats cancer. His father was John Quincy Franklin Adams, born, also born in Market Lake, Idaho 15 Aug 1872, and his grandfather was John Newton Adams, born 19 Feb 1833 in West Virginia, US. We have not traced them back further than Virginia and maybe New York. There are so many John Adams, but I only knew one John Hamer until yours.
