    3. Mrs. Mary Doe is frowned upon in no uncertain terms. Found out hard way - the possibilities of more than one "Mrs. Mary Doe" multiple real fast and nfs doesn't recognize "Mrs." nFS nearly classified one of my ancestors Elizabeth Gent as Elizabeth, with "Gent" listed as a suffix! Gent stands for Gentleman. nFS DOES accept given names only if listed as spouses. David Samuelsen Nancy Scott wrote: > David, > > If I found Mary as a name for a wife, I would put Mrs. Mary Doe. 1. Re: [LDS-WC] Rejected un-named children!
    2. This brings up a question (why do I always think of possible exceptions?): if the twins who died almost immediately at birth and were unnamed were both of the same gender, it will look like duplicate entries, when in actual fact they WERE twins. Would it be appropriate to put in "twin A" or "twin B" somewhere in the record so that the Temple and other researchers (and even ourselves several years later) don't come along and combine the records thinking they were only one person? I have a relative that had triplets who died at birth, and we have found no record as to them having received names, though at this point they're on hold because I can't even find gender identification, since the Mom was not living in town or near her church at the time of the event. I already have surname, gender and parents, all in the right places. I tried "Edit" to see if I can get around this rejection, nothing to indiciate that it is unnamed child that is already known by all other identifications. It was not a problem when TempleReady was used in past. The record said Tochter or Sohn and surname, (German for daughter and son), name of parents, dates and place of birth and death). Already have complete information for parents for the ordinances along with the rest of their children. I am waiting for reply to the feedback I sent yesterday. Just remember that the German Catholic Church was very strict about the babies who died before they could be "baptized", they are rejected and no given names are listed. Simply not recorded in church records, not even mentioned in burial records and as the consequence the civil registration records are only records showing these un-named children. 3. fine in USA but not in Germany where they do not use that, they use son or daughter on the record. I don't want anyone to think otherwise that the records have not been discovered. These original records I have seen always mentioned son or daughter, never "child". And all other identifying information are already on the record. This has not been a problem with old TempleReady. 3. Michele, I believe that this is an instance where looking at the information in Family Tree instead of NFS is helpful. There is a drop down box so you can select yourself or the temple. I have an ancestor that is assigned to the temple but the work is not yet completed and so it still shows up in my Temple list in Family Tree. I like the idea that the individual remains on the list until the work is completed. That way you know whether progress is being made or not. In my opinion, this is not a bug but a feature. 3. This is very interesting. Once I found a _civil_ birth record, which detailed the names of parents and grandparents with their origins... But the newborn was not named! I assume this happened because the boy would only get a name at baptism -- and he was baptized only a few days later. Brother Samuelsen, may I suggest you enter "unnamed child" as a name -- only to get around the system. Of course, if my suggestion becomes standard practice, the system may start suggesting that all the "unnamed children" be merged together. -------------------------------------------------- From: "W. 3. If we don't use Mr or Miss for the unnamed child, the temple's computer will designate the appropriate one before the family file card is printed. (This is another reason the proper gender needs to be selected.) We are told not to use descriptive words in place of names -- baby, son, daughter, unnamed child, etc. A surname and gender is enough to generate the proper "Mr" or "Miss" designation. If the individual needs more information to be sealed, look at the parents' ordinances. There is probably a reason found in their ordinances which prevent the system to process the child and thus the phrase "more information needed". New FamilySearch will not allow a child who died under the age of 8 years old to be sealed to their parents unless the parents' individual ordinances and sealing to spouse ordinances are completed. This is illustrated by patrons having a family in their reserve list. They choose the child and then the parents' individual and sealing ordinances are also marked with a check. Remove the child's checkmark and the checkmarks remain in the parents' boxes. Sometimes it helps to explore New FamilySearch and see what happens with the choices we make. 1. Re: [LDS-WC] Making temple work available for others to do
    2. Mary S. Scott (Michigan)
    3. I have used the temple file submissions a lot -- especially since my family file is large enough already. I particularly like submitting male names for individual ordinances through temple file. I save the sealings sometimes for my family file. In the two years of using New FamilySearch, this is what I have learned. (I will write this as simply as I can and try to help those on the list who are not familiar with the ordinance process.) As I find a family or add/edit information for a family, I notice if anyone needs temple ordinances. If many family members have already had their ordinances done, I concentrate on the other family members who still need their ordinances completed. It is important to seek out duplications, etc. for these missing ordinances because they might actually be completed already. I then choose the flashing arrow temple icon for the family (sometimes the individual in the lds ordinance section) and have two choices: "Assign ordinances to others" or "I will do the ordinances". (Wording might not be exact.) If I choose "assign ordinances to others", I can choose which ordinances I will do and which I want the temple to do. Sometimes I can handle a certain ordinance better than another one. For instance, baptisms and confirmations if our ward is having a youth temple trip. Sometimes I choose to have the temple file responsible for all the ordinances. After I make those selections, I will choose the "temple ordinance" tab at the top of the screen. Then I pick the last selection which has a heading "Make Names Available for Others to Do". I then go through the list which includes my family file entries. As I go through the lists, I determine if I want to keep a name in family file ("Me") or add it to the temple file ("Temple"). The family file entries will be blank if I have already processed the information through an FOR. If they are still available, they will have "ME" in the field. The ones that I have already released for Temple File, will have "Temple" in the field. I make the changes as I go through the information. Later, I can go back and switch the "Temple" back to "Me" if I want to do so. It is important to note that I cannot see which names are in Temple File from the other submission section: "Select Individuals or Families from my Reserved List". If I choose a person whose ordinances are supposed to be done in temple file, it will cause problems at the final steps of the FOR process. For me, I have learned to go into the "Make Names Available for Others to Do" BEFORE I create an FOR for family file. This is just me, perhaps, but it is a lot easier to print off the page for a family as I get the information ready the way I want it. I can then know for certain that the ordinances I choose for family files will be available for family file. As for the temple file submissions, it doesn't always happen right away. Sometimes I check later in the day or the next day. The work is marked "in process" -- sometimes for all the available ordinances or perhaps only for the first missing ordinance. As a person's ordinances are completed, their name is dropped off of the reserve list. They will remain on the list as long as an ordinance is missing. (So a patron can change the field from "temple" back to "me" if the ordinance(s) remains available. NFS is more flexible in these steps than FamilyTree.) One day I found a child who needed to be sealed to their parents. I cleared the name for the temple file and later that day she was sealed to her parents. It made me happy that the missing sealing ordinance was completed within hours. I live in Michigan and the sealing was done in California. What a great blessing NFS is for all of us! One final thought: if we are submitting information to help other ward members or family members, we should sign on as their helper. This helps the information we add to be credited to the proper submitter. It will say that a fact's contact is "so-and_so" and list their email address. The helper is listed with the tag "submitted by:". Mary Scott Northville Ward Westland Michigan Stake Detroit Michigan Temple

    3. Please don't put "unnamed child" in to get around the system - the system will accept "Mr." or "Miss". When we see "unnamed child" at our Temple, we put a note on the cards for the patron the speak with the Recorder. Just last night I found the death certificate of a baby who lived 5 hours. She was unnamed, and the system took her as "Miss Cardstensen" just fine, so it does work and is appropriate. 1. Re: [LDS-WC] Making temple work available for others to do
    2. I don't want to print FORS. I know how to do that. I want to assign the names to others and I'm having trouble doing it. The online feedback and helps are not helpful. What appears to happen during the submission when I click on "assign to others" is that after "temple" appears, they are "reserved" and are sitting in my file. I don't want them in my file, I want to submit them to the temple for others to do. Gone, goodbye, go get done, not by me, ever. (This is actually for a patron I'm helping who requests this) I can't figure out why they wind up in the reserved file when I'm trying to send them out to a temple to be completed. These are new names, introduced by me, double-checked for duplications....... Is there a tutorial on how to submit to the temple assigning the work for others to do?? 3. I have had exactly the same problem you describe. I am sure I assigned the ordinances to the temple but they appeared in my reserve list and then I could not change the designation. When I phoned Support about it, they had me print out the FOR. I then had to take the form to the temple to have them cancel the ordinances and then start all over again. There must be some kind of glitch that makes this happen. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JCBrooks@aol.com> To: <lds-ward-consultant@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 09, 2009 12:32 AM Subject: Re: [LDS-WC] Making temple work available for others to do >I don't want to print FORS.
