Everything that was on the classic site is now at the new site. Reference helps would likely be found under the Learn category at the top. That takes you to the learning resources, which is greatly expanded. The entire site is expanded and improved and had to be revamped to add all of the new information that is coming online. Feel free to ask here if you can't find specific things and we will see if we can guide each other to the new home of the information. these hae been transferred to FamilySearch Wiki. Geez, these reference aids are over 10 years old and haven't been updated while the ones at Wiki had been updated. this is one feature they haven't fixed in more than 2 years now for the new FamilySearch site. Still sending feedback to bring attention to this problem. Thank You Rebecca for saying that because that's something I really miss on the new one and I found myself switching back to the OLD FamilySearch to find a location I could not find on the new site. Maybe if enough of us say something this feature will be retained. I sure hope so. Well, I no sooner sent this than I just got an answer back from familysearch after waiting a couple of days--they tell me the typed version is available on Ancestry just below the original handwritten version. I will check this out. I shouldhave been more patient before putting this on the consultant board but I have been really frustrated. Change is always hard. I really like the way the census was available as well as the Ped Resource File. Hi, I have a question about the Classis Familysearch site which contained the 1880 re-indexed U. S Census. Can if be found anywhere in the same format where one can search neighboring households page by page? The original on Ancestry is much harder to read and search and I miss the other? Help! I have contacted familysearch support and no one seems to know anything about it. Cathe in Colorado
Eileen, If you use Ancestry.com, you can make the change there now as you would using the "Page Tools" menu item "View/Add Alternate Info". I have already made a change for my husband's grandfather using this tool. His grandfather is indexed as F Bardis Camper. The name was F Rawlins Camper. The "F" stands for Francis which he never used. I added the transcription error as a name change. I also changed the state that my mother-in-law was born in after checking with her to be sure that I was correct. FamilySearch is not allowing Alternate Information at present but when Dear Myrtle interview one of the key guests from FamilySearch recently on the RootsMagic Webinars regarding the 1940 US Federal Census, the guest was anticipating sometime early next year for that tool to be implemented into FamilySearch. It seems to me that the sooner the better but I do realize that they have a multitude of tasks to accomplish. As Jill Crandell has commented in the past, it would be good for all of us to keep a list of names we come across that need correcting. I have not done this unfortunately but I am going to go right now and develop a table in Word where I can list this type of correction. I will probably list the problem, the correction, where it needs to be corrected and where it has already been corrected. Something like that so that I can track it without having to redo or recheck things that are already completed. Nancy Scott PS If Jill has any comments about what might be good to list or how she has tracked it, I would be happy to hear them. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Eileen Wheeler Sent: Friday, April 20, 2012 01:36 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [LDS-WC] 1940 Census Hi all...I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about who to notify or what to do about an issue I have with the 1940 census...or if there is really nothing I can do about it. Well, the good thing is -- you know exactly where to find yourself. :-) In any case, since the Census is wrong, the Index will be wrong, too. Indexing will not provide a way to fix fact errors -- indexing will "type as seen." Of course, at some point the information might be on a wiki, or on New FamilySearch, and then it can be edited. In the meantime, don't lose yourself. :-) -----Mensagem Original----- From: Eileen Wheeler Sent: Friday, April 20, 2012 2:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [LDS-WC] 1940 Census Hi all...I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about who to notify or what to do about an issue I have with the 1940 census...or if there is really nothing I can do about it. Has anyone else had trouble logging in? I get a message that says that I need to combine my accounts. I tried doing this again (I already had done so when I created nFS account over a year ago), but it says my info is incorrect. I know I have the correct username/password. I admit I have not been on lately due to life happenings, but I don't understand this error. Joyce Walth
