    3. That is true, but the place of residence(even tho it may be farm name) of the parents is usually given in the record and is very, very useful. I know in Swedish extraction which I did for awhile, the residence place(farm name) was always extracted. This does not seem to be the case for Denmark Steve Kelsey ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen Tippets" <sahara346@gmail.com> To: <lds-ward-consultant@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 6:44 PM Subject: Re: [LDS-WC] combining individuals >I can't answer for Denmark, but I know that many European countries have > several small villages that surround the one that has the local church > that > everybody goes to. 3. I can't answer for Denmark, but I know that many European countries have several small villages that surround the one that has the local church that everybody goes to. Therefore, unless the record specifies which specific village or farm the family is associated with, the only place that you can give with any certainty is the parish church in which the child was christened. 3. I am now spending probably 90% of my time combining individuals. A lot of this is caused by extraction. Apparently the rules for Danish extraction are that the patronymic is ALWAYS used for the child's surname regardless of whether the father has a surname or not. Most of the people I deal with are of the upper class who had surnames and the surnames carry over so because they insist on extracting as patronyms and others put the name in with the surname, duplication is always there. Also I note that extraction usually puts in the birth date WITHOUT any birthplace and then the christening date and christening place. The birthplace is usually given in the record and is often the same as the christening place but apparently their rules say DO NOT PUT IT IN. A little sense with this would be very helpful. 2. L C Ritter
    3. Friends, just an idea re fan charts. Of course, they are not necessary. Those of us who have been researching our families can certainly get by without them. However, some of us are more graphically oriented than others. Perhaps I'm one of those, because I do appreciate fan charts. For years, I've enjoyed enclosing them in birthday cards for family members, especially the younger ones. I think fan charts do a good job of illustrating missing fields and it is my hope the missing parts will inspire someone to become inspired to help me fill in some blanks (so far it hasn't worked, but I continue to be hopeful. LOL LOL). Seriously, it makes for tidy enclosure and at least reminds the recipient that their family history actually exists. I think of it as planting seeds which I hope will someday bloom into an avid interest. I should add that none of my relatives are LDS -- I'm the only one, so I also look upon things like fan charts as missionary tools. It is my belief that Family History is one of our greatest missionary hooks to get folks interested. 3. Hi Shanna, thanks so much for your help. Yes I could reprint an SS card. But I still have this card. So that's fine. But I cannot print any other card. I'm a little bit confused here. You said I E and SP were already assigned to the temple system in 2007. But only an hour ago I released the reservations for I and E back to the temple system. I'm not sure about SP. I did so because a triangle in front of her name indicated some problem. I was able to release I and E (and maybe also SP) to the temple system. If I E and SP were already assigned to the temple system in 2007 I'm really worrying about what I have done an hour ago. This is really confusing and frustrating. I will probably open a case to clear up the lost ordinances. What would you recommend: Should I wait until the other ordinances will have been performed and then do the SS myself? Or should I rather release the SS and give it back to the temple system? Thanks! 2. Shanna Jones
    3. Sebastian, I checked and you still have her reserved and she is available to print in your Printed cards list https://familysearch.org/temple/printed The new version of Family Tree has separated the temple list into four categories. If you click on Temple, after signing in, you will see four categories: Reserved (for those ordinances reserved but not yet printed or reassigned) Shared (for the ordinances that have been reassigned to the temple) Printed (for those that have already had a Family Ordinance Request printed) and Opportunities (scans the first four generations and down one generation looking for any ancestors that are ready.) The I E and SP were assigned to the temple system in 2007 though, and so are likely lost in the system, as pre-2009 had trouble. You may want to create a case for support to have that issue resolved. She should be showing up on your Shared list, but she is not. There is a known issue with the new release, but also a pre-2009 issue from new.familysearch.org so you may be experiencing one or both. 3. I have a friend that is not a member but has her family history on familysearch, she has been a volunter at our local family history library for 14 years.. Her parents were divorced when she was two and her mother died shortly after. She has foster parents that we have added as additional parents on familysearch. Now on her tree the adoptive parents show and she wants her genetic line to show but have her adoptive parents in the data base. How do we get it switched? Thanks Nancy

    3. Nancy, In the Help Center, see Knowledge Base Document # 1027985 Adding, Changing, and Deleting Relationship Types between Parents and Children The "relationship type" specifies how a child and parent are related. By default, the system uses "Biological" as the relationship type. You can change that relationship type to adopted, step, guardianship, or other. You can also add more than one relationship type and delete relationship types.
