    1. LAYTONS OF NEW ORLEANS
    2. edwin layton
    3. I have recently been ask concerning a family of Laytons originating from New Orleans and must admit I have never come across them. I understand they were originally the Lawnes of Norton Subcourse, Norfolk, but a Robert Lawne born circa 1786 adopted the Layton name by adding it to his own. The father of Robert was Buxton Lawne who emigrated to America, where not known, sometime between 1801 and 1811 when he is believed to have married, bigamously, and disappeared. As I say, I had never heard of this story and understand there is a book relating some of the lineage but wonder how much is fact and how much is fancy. Has anyone come across this family or, perhaps, read the book? Any helpful comment would be appreciated. Kind regards; ED.

    3. ED: Sorry, I have not heard of LAWNE before..Just Lawn.. My husband is from the Thomas Layton line 1604-1672. The spelling (Leighton) as we see it today became the norm in the early 1800's. I have seen several spellings in one family.. I have a CLARA {{LAWN}} married WINSLOW G. SMALL, Winslow was the Son of: IRENE LEIGHTON/LAYTON and ISAAC SMALL. Winslow was the Grandson of: JONATHAN and ANNAH (Dyer) LEIGHTON/LAYTON..
