There were 3 Lawsons in New Kent County, VA at this time, John, Nicholas and Jonas. We do not know what happen to John and Nicholas but we do know that Jonas Lawson moved with his family to Goochland County, VA and lived there a number of years. It could be possible that he is the father of William but again no proof. We know that William's son Bartholomew's wife, Susannah Simkins' family lived in Goochland County during a period of time that Jonas and his family were there. Also I do not believe that Epaphroditus Lawson (son of Rowland and Letitia Lawson) of Lancaster County, VA (abt 1644?) was the father of John Lawson above. Epaphroditus died young in Lancaster County, VA some time before 8 May 1661 as shown by the following: - Lancaster County, VA, Orders and etc., Book 1655-1666, page 142 - Court 8 May 1661. Epaphroditus Lawson, deceased, son of Rowland, deceased, dyeing intestate and leaving a small stock of cattle behind him being part of his father's estate upon the petition of Lettice his mother in respect of the ______ & smallness of her husband's estate, it is ordered that she may dispose of the said cattle towards the payment of some small debts of her said son and the good of her self and children. Lastly, in our Lawson DNA Project we do have one member who shows his line of Lawsons going back to Thomas Lawson and his wife Mary Sisson who lived in Lancaster County, VA or the Tidewater Area of Virginia. It is believe that this Thomas Lawson was related to Rowland Lawson through his son Richard Lawson but has not been documented yet. This member's Halogroup is R1a1. There are a number of Lawsons that can document their line back to William Lawson of Falling River and their Halogroup is I1. This would indicate that William Lawson is not related to the Roland Lawson line that we find in the Tidewater Area of VA.
