W. Stevens Dear Sir; We received your letter on Wednesday last with the declaration enclosed in it which was attended to the best of our skill and ability and I can't recollect as well as I would wish to do and further I don't recollect the regiment that was attached to nor who it was commanded by for our officers went on and attached our company to the regiment and stopped us this side till they come back and I think it may be possible that by you looking at your books that you can tell yourself and I authorize you if there be anything lacking to fill out and again I am getting old and very frail and life is uncertain and I would like to have MY FATHER WILLIAM LAWSON pension attended to as soon as you can get your business ready for it if you think it can be got for HE WAS IN THE SAME WAR THAT MY WIFES FATHER MILES BARROTT was in and I am reddy to attend to it as soon as you wright to me and that is knot all I want you to look for ONE OF MY UNCLES NAME DAVID HINTON for he has no norther heirs b! ut me and I want to know wether it would be legal for me to have or not. Wright as soon as you can and I was dismissed on the road at the camps and got my discharge in Asheville the 4 day of April and I don't know how to fill that part out. I am Dear Sir respectfully yours, s/ Thom Lawson [There seemed to be a page missing] [ The next page says] he further makes oath that he did apply for his bounty land under act of 1850 and that he never red a warrant for the same---- he therefor now revokes all previous powers of attorny and every sort of athority given heretofore for obtaining said bounty land warrent and acknowledges none of the binding on him but the present one to his attorney J W Stevens of Abingdon, Washington County, Va. all others being null and void. s/ R.W.
