Author: davshaf Surnames: Lawson Torrence Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6800/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My4th gr.grandfather on my mother's side,Alexander Torrence b.22 Jun 1772 d.20 Nov.1844 buried center church married Catherine "surname unknown"b.26 Apr.1777 d.07 Sept.1843,buried center,believed to be the daughter of Hugh Lawson Jr. 1729-1796 and Rebekah McConnell b.abt1750 d.abt 1830.As with the practice of naming children with their mother's maiden name as a middle name,two of Alexander and Catherine's children had Lawson as their middle names,namely the Rev.David Lawson Torrence and Samuel Lawson Henderson Torrence.This leaves little doubt that Catherine "surname unknown" was a Lawson,but to the best of my knowledge is still unproven,and that she is the daughter of Hugh Jr.is unproven as well.I have seen trees on this and other sites claiming that this Hugh Lawson family is descended from the Brough Hall Lawsons.My family legend claims this as well.Is this fact or fallacy?Thanks David Shaffer Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
