I see that your birth surname is Lawson. If you are a male, you could do the test (on the Y-chromosome, the male sex chromosome). If you are female, then one of your male Lawson relatives would have to be the one to test. However, if a close relative, second cousin or closer, has already tested, then there is no need to test. By doing this, you will learn what families you relate to, thereby gaining some insight as where to look for further inforamtion. You also learn what families you do not relate to. There is a Lawson Surname DNA Project and a MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Lawson is a Clan surname) that you can join.
