But, Wayne is correct, the first Enoch to be document in the census is too young to be the 1840 Hawkins County Enoch. He is usually considered to be Emanuel Lawson. Now, Emanuel is listed a born in VA in one census, so he could be an Enoch Emanuel or Emanuel Enoch or Enoch could be a nickname. The name William Stokley Lawson cannot be documented. Someone decided that was his name to connect him with a certain line. I personally believe it is wrong. The death certificate of his son John who died Bexar County, TX says that his name was Hutcheson Lawson. I don't know if that would be Stokley Hutcheson or Hutcheson Stokely.
