    3. When did Goober Pea leave for TN with his children? I will look at the 1790 and 1800 census to see how many children he had then. I checked out that site that was posted on this list, and it looks like John (Goober Pea) Lawson and John Black-eye Lawson were in Surry Co., NC in 1784 - 1789 and 1790- 1795 in Stokes Co., NC on the tax lists. They were listed alternately as John Sr. and John Jr. - then John Black-eye and John (G-Pea). Each time they had the same land so it looks like John Sr/B. E. was father or uncle to John G-Pea/John Jr. I know it is not always a son/father then Sr/Jr is used but in this case it seems so. John White Eye is listed separately from Black-eye in 1780 - 1783 and in 1784 John jr also appears. By 1800 (on the census) John White-eye seems to be listed with Wm and Jerusah Lawson Hooker; we know her father dies in her household in 1813. No John Lawsons left in Stokes Co., NC in 1814 on tax list? In 1790 on a tax list in Stokes John Black eye is listed and in 1800 on the census there is a John and wife over 45 and one 26-45. John Black-eye/John Sr is usually listed as living near Patmon who on the estate below is listed as a son/heir. John Black-eye died and his land was sold as listed below:  Stokes County Deed Book 5, page 160, 15 October 1803.  Thomas Lawson, John Lawson, Letty Lawson, Clem Lawson, Patmon Lawson and Randall Hall are selling to Thomas Gains 200 acres of land on Little Peters Creek.  The deed does not say where they acquired the land, but they are obviously tenants in common.  There is a state grant 813, dated 5 October 1778, in the Surry County Book of Land Entries, 1778 – 1781 and reentered in Vol. 1, Stokes County Record of Deeds, 1787 – 1793, page 124, Grant 1071, dated 18 May 1781, that was received by John Lawson for 200 acres, which is the same 200 acres that is sold in Deed Book 5, page160 with identical land description shown above.  This John Lawson who is identified in the tax lists as John Lawson B.E. (Black Eye).  Looks like John Black Eye Lawson’s children and son-in-law are selling his land. It appears that John Goober Pea/John Jr. of the Surry Co., NC tax lists is this John listed as a seller (in 1903) with John Black-eye's children??
