Like I indicated in my other notes, John BE, is probably a son or grandson of William Lawson of Falling River. David Lawson I believe is the son of Jonas Lawson who lived much of his life in Goochland County, VA. The records show he did marry Ann Harvey and they indicate he had sons Jonas, John, William, David and James. Here is what I have on this David: - Goochland County, Virginia Order Book 1, page 157, September 1729, David Lawson one wolves' head - 200 lbs Tobacco. Goochland County, Virginia Wills and Deeds 1728-1734, Book 1, page 471, 14 January 1733/34. Patrick Mullins of Goochland County, to John Denney of Hanover County, for £35, three hundred and fifty acres, granted to said Mullins by patent 28 September 1728, on Byrd Creek, bounded by Thornton's line. Wit: Jonas Lawson, David Lawson, and William Carrill. Goochland County, Virginia Order Book 3, Page 224, February Court 1733/34. On the Petition of David Lawson against Robert Hapior Jr. the Defendant appears and confesses. Virginia Land Patent Book 18, page 495, 12 March 1739/40, David Lawson 400 acres, Goochland County, Virginia, for 2 pounds, East side of Little Byrd, North side of James River, adjacent to George Payne, Arthur Hopkins, Jonas Lawson and Thomas Massie, deceased. Goochland Co. Wills and Deeds 1737-1742, Book 3, pages 349-350, 16 Aug 1740, David Lawson of Goochland Co, to Anne Horsley of same, for £30, land on North side of James River on upper side of Little Byrd Creek, two hundred acres; being the lower two hundred of four hundred acres surveyed for David Lawson 6 Feb 1733, bounded by George Payne, Joseph Pare, Jonas Lawson. Wit: James George, William Matlock and Peter Massie Jr. Signed: David (X) Lawson Recorded 19 Aug 1740 Goochland Co. Order Book 4, page 510, David Lawson acknowledges a Deed with the Livery of Seizin and Receipt endorsed from himself to Anne Horsley his Acts and Deeds which are ordered to be recorded. Goochland Co. Order Book 4, page 568, July Court 1740, in the Action of Debt between John Cheadlo Plaintiff and John Godby, John Kidd and Daniel Baskett the Jury consisted of John Williams, Benjamin Bradshaw, Thomas Pinkett, John Cannon, William Pledge, William Wamask, Constant Pirkins, John Wright, David Lawson, Abraham Baker, John Hoseley, John Watson. Virginia Land Patent Book 22, page 15, dated 1 March 1743/44, David Lawson, 150 acres Goochland County for 15 shillings, West side of Little Byrd Creek, adjacent to Jonas Lawson and John Cole, deceased. Goochland County, Virginia Deed and Will Book 4, 1741-1745, pages 322 and 323: - David Lawson of the County of Goochland, deeded to George Crondus, of same county, 150 acres, for 20 pounds, land being in Goochland County, on the Little Byrd Creek (page is torn, could not read all of it). Witnesses were James George, Joseph Pate and Andrew Wade. Dated 7 March 1743/44 and recorded 20 March 1743/44. Goochland County, Virginia Order Book 5, Page 342, March Court 1743/44, David Lawson acknowledges a Deed with the Livery of Seizin and Receipt endorsed from himself to George Crondus to be his Acts and Deeds which are ordered to be recorded. St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, Vestry Book, 1744-1850 - 13 October 1755 Vestry Meeting, page 55, David Lawson and George Clowdas were appointed Processioners, to procession the lands beginning at Clowdas bridge on the upper side of Little Byrd Creek, to Straw Camp, to the County line and to Paynes Road. David Lawson and Ann Harvey, a son named James, born 31 July 1760. Baptized 17 August 1760. Page 58 in "The Douglas Register." Goochland County, Virginia Deed and Will Book 8, 1759-1765, pages 116 and 117: - Will of John Bostick, gave to his godson, Jonas Lawson, son of David and Anne Lawson his 200 acres of land where he lived. Made David Lawson his executor and gave to him his stock and household goods. Witnesses were James George and Thomas Poor. Will dated 6 December 1749 and recorded 20 January 1761 Goochland County, Virginia, Order Book 8, pages 386-387. The last Will and Testament of John Bostick deceased, was presented in Court by David Lawson the Executor who made Oath thereto and the same was proved by the Oaths of James George and Thomas Poor, witnesses and admitted to record. And on the Motion of the said Executor, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form, James George and John Mosely entering themselves securities for the same. The Court also ordered that Joseph Pace, William Pace, William Johnson and John Pace or any three of them appraise the estate of John Bostick deceased and that his Executor do return an inventory thereof to the next court. St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, Vestry Book, 1744-1850 - 26 February 1764 Vestry Meeting, page 89, Henry Tuggle and John Britt, David Lawson and George Cloudas were appointed Processioners, to procession the lands beginning at Cloudas bridge on the Little Byrd Creek. St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, Vestry Book, 1744-1850 - 31 August 1767 Vestry Meeting, page 101, David Lawson and George Cloudas where George Cloudas and David Lawson did (the procession of lands) in 1764. (See above where they were appointed Processioners.) Goochland County, Virginia Deed and Will Book 9, 1765-1769, pages 105-106: - A deed made 31 October 1767 between Jonas Lawson Sr. and David Lawson Sr. of the County of Goochland and William Harrison of the same County for the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds, deeded four hundred acres of land in Goochland County to Harrison. It being a tract of parcel of land lying and being in Goochland County on the branches of the Little Bird Creek whereon the said Jonas and David Lawson now live and dwell and being part of two surveys taken up and patented by Jonas Lawson Sr. and part of a survey taken up and patented by David Lawson Sr. Bounded by the lines of Col. John Payne, George Cloudas, Thomas Massie, George Barelay and Jonas Lawson Jr. Signed Jonas X (his mark) Lawson Sr. and David X (his mark) Lawson Sr. Witnesses William George, John Britt, Obadiah Daniel, Jonas Lawson Jr. and George C (his mark) Cloudas. Recorded 17 November 1767 and it stated that Ann Lawson, wife of ! David Lawson Sr., being first privately examined, relinquished her right of Dower and was admitted to record. Goochland County, Virginia Order Book 11, Page 129, 17 November 1767 Court. At a Court held for Goochland County on Beaverdam the third Tuesday in November being the 17th day of the mouth, 1767. John Britt, Obadiah Daniel and Jonas Lawson Jr. proved a deed with the Livery of Seizin and receipt endorsed from Jonas Lawson Sr. and David Lawson Sr. to William Harrison, Gentleman, to be the Acts and Deeds of the said Jonas and David, which are ordered to be record. Then Mary, wife of the said David (she being first privately examined) relinquish her right of Dower in the land by the said deed conveyed which is also admitted to record. (Note: In the Deed Book, it gave her name as Ann. Is her full name Mary Ann or was this a mistake in the entry?) St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, Vestry Book, 1744-1850 - 23 December 1767 Vestry Meeting, page 103, Susanna Williams to be paid to David Lawson (gave no details). Virginia Patents/Grants, Patents Book 37, 1767-1768, page 279, dated 20 July 1768, David Lawson, for £3, 575 acres, Bedford County, Virginia, on the North side of Stanton (Roanoke) River, up Whipping Creek, down Bowman's Creek, adjacent Neil, Guilentine, Marshall and Pendleton. Bedford County, Virginia Order Book, 1763-1771 - Order Book 3, page 458, August Court 1768, Talbot vs. David Lawson. No other details. The records show a Talbot vs. Lawson in December 1768, January 1769 and March 1769 when a judgment was made. No details. Bedford County, Virginia, Deed Book 3, pages 446-447, dated 21 May 1770, David Lawson of the County of Bedford and Anne, his wife, sold to Charles Talbot of the County aforesaid, for the sum of one hundred pounds, a certain track of land situated, lying and being in the County aforesaid containing five hundred and seventy-five acres on Neal's lower Mulberry on the north side of Stanton (Roanoke) River, adjacent Gellen lines corner White Oak, Whipping Creek, Marshal's corner, Pointer Pendleton's line and Bowman's Creek. Signed David (his mark) Lawson. Witnesses: Wiliston Talbot, David Lawson, Jr. and John Hall. Received the 21 Day of May 1770 of Charles Talbot one hundred pounds current money it being the within purchased money for the within track of land in witness my hand. Signed David X Lawson Sr. Test Williston Talbot and John X Hall Recorded in Bedford County 22 May 1770. The indenture and receipt hereon endorsed were proved by the oaths of Wiliston Talbot, David Lawson Jr. and John Hall. Teste Ben Howard CBC, Bedford County, Order Book 3, page 645, May Court 1770. A Deed Lawson and wife to Talbot by 3 witnesses and order recorded. Bedford County Will Book 1, pages 127-128, Jonas Lawson's Will, dated 5 April 1770: - In the Name of God, Amen, I Jonas Lawson of Bedford Country and Russell Parish being indisposing in body but in perfect mind and memory so make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally, first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it not doubting but at the general revelation I shall receive the same again by the mighty powers of God as for my being I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a decent like and Christian burial at the declaration of my Executors and as touching at my worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and depose of the same in the following manner, viz., one Negro man named Jack and Negro woman named Phillis which wench, I allow to be sold to any one for the support of the family and eighteen head of cattle, one mare, one horse, three beds and furniture and the household furniture ! which I give and bequeath to my well beloved relatives or grandchildren viz., David, William, John and James Lawson sons of David Lawson after my decease and this ordain my last will and testament revolting all other wills or testaments by me made. In witness whereof I do hereto by set my hand and seal this fifth day of April one thousand seven hundred and seventy. The within last will and testament of Jonas Lawson deceased, was exhibited in Court and proved by the oaths of two of the witnesses there to subscribed and ordered to be recorded. Teste Ben Howard CBC It looks like this David Lawson is still alive when Jonas Lawson's Will was written. However, Jonas left everything he own to David's sons or at least the younger sons. Where did David go to after he sold out in Bedford County? Is he the David Lawson mentioned in Pittsylvania County, VA court records? Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Court Records 1772-1775, Book 2, May Court 1773, page 173 - In Debt Suit, William Call assignee of David George, Plaintiff against David Lawson, Defendant. The defendant being an inhabitant of North Carolina, this suit abated. Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Court Records 1772-1775, Book 2, March Court 1774, page 349 - Thomas Yuille and Company, Plaintiff against David Lawson Senr., Defendant. This day came the Plaintiff by their Attorney and thereupon come also a Jury. and it named the members of the Jury. Who being elected, tried and sworn well and truly to Inquire of Damages in this cause, on their Oaths do say, that the Plaintiffs have sustained damages by reason of the breach of the Defendant's promise and assumption in the Declaration charged, besides their costs, of thirteen pounds, nineteen shillings and six pence half penny. Therefore it is considered by the Court that the Plaintiff recover against the said Defendant their damages by the Jurors in form aforesaid assessed together with their costs by them about their suit in this behalf expensed and the said Defendant in mercy &c. Have also seen a note that John BE Lawson married a Margaret Bryant but have never found any documentation on this. I do know that Thomas Lawson of Surry County, NC married a Bryant. The following was a deposition given by Sarah Lawson in support of her brother Thomas Bryant's efforts obtain his Revolutionary War Pension: - State of North Carolina Surry County Personally appeared before me William G. Haynes one of the acting Justices of the said County, Sarah Lawson who being duly sworn, deposeth and sayeth that she, though young at the time, well recollects that her brothers Thomas and John Bryant were both soldiers in the Revolutionary War. Recollecting that at one time they came home and told their parents they had entered during the war and it occurred them to grieved boys much on the account of doing so. Recollected their father going with them some distance when they went again into the service. They all at this time lived with their father and mother in Halifax County, Virginia. Recollected when her brother Thomas Bryant, the applicant, came home from Gate's defeat, her brother John never returned and she has never seen him since that time, it was approved and believed by the family he was killed. That his father at this time lived in Randolph County, NC, having removed from Halifax, VA. She well recollects his tour o! f service after the battle of Guilford, under Captain Joseph Clark and Alexander Smith who with _____ as she understood Col. Collins. These officers names she was quite familiar with for they lived in the settlement of her father in Randolph County, NC.
