So many sources contradict each other. One source says his father was Nathan "Old Nate" Lawson. Another source says "no, no, no" it was a William Lawson. His mother was either Leanna Morgan Lawson or Elizabeth "Wurteh" Watts. I have read from several sources that Drury claimed to be a half brother to Chief Robert Benge. Any truth to that? I have even looked into the Melungeons since Drury was friends of Vardy Collins and Williamson Trent, both Melungeons. And I believe Drury lived on Newman's Ridge where many Melungeons were located. I know that somewhere out there, there is a book, or a person out there who has the answers to Drury's parentage, and ethnic background. My husband is descended from: 1. Drury Lawson, 2. Nathaniel Lawson, 3. William Morgan Lawson, 4. William Crayton Lawson, and 4. Nolan Lawson. Also, does anyone know where Drury is buried? He died in 1847 in Claiborne co. This has been a major brick wall for the past seven years, and I'm ready to throw in the towel! :) I would love to hear from any and all Lawson descendants from the Drury line.
