It occurred around that time leaving some Q1a3 with M3- and some with M3 . M3- was the original Q1a3 designation, according to scientists. It is still found in the Middle East and in other areas of Asia - and in a small group of descendants of Native Americans in this country. It is rarer than the M3 now - but originally was the only designation of that haplo - thousands of yrs ago. Because the Hookers with the Q1a3 M3- are known to descend from a Native American/Cherokee male who lived in S W VA c 1700, we have more than just the DNA indication of Native American ancestry.
