This line has now traced back to the Native American (Cherokee) male b c 1700-1710. His son Robin/Robert, jr (and wife Ali/Alice) had several sons - we know for sure about Wm b c 1755 who died c 1855 in PCVA and Samuel b c 1765 who also died in PCVA, before 1850. Robin was probably brother to the father of the Randolph Co., NC Hookers and father or uncle of the father of the "6 brothers" Hooker line. We do not have some of the exact names, but know they all trace back to the Native American male b c 1700-1710. So he testing is very important even if one does not have an exact given name. We know all these Q1a3 males are related to this one original Native American male b c 1700-1710 in the area of PCVA/Henry Co.,VA (before those counties were formed. This original guy was b c 1700-1710, as this was about when settlers first came into that area for this NA to marry. He probably married a female settler with the Hooker surname or just took that name. His son Robin/Robert Jr Hooker was b c 1730. There was a Robert acquiring land in that area c 1746 and in the 1750s. We know Robin, the son of the original NA was b c 1730 and had sons b c 1755 and 1765. The descendants have an unusual Q1a3 haplo which is only found in NA and Asian populations - not in European populations. Native American haplos can be identified but as to exact Cherokee haplos - we only know that some Cherokee today that are on the "rolls" do have this Q haplo. They were not all rejected because their Cherokee heritage was not believed. At the beginning of the Guion Rolls it states that one could be rejected for those above reasons. When one finds several statements by several descendants in the Guion rolls that match they are likely to be true. They, in 1907/08, were only going back 2-3 generations which many people can do today with some accuracy. Back then people often sat aroudn and discussed the family more than today - no TV to entertain so they told old family stories/talked about relatives. It is possible for someone interested in DNA testing (if they are female) to ask a brother or other male relative to test for them. That said, it is more difficult if you are trying to trace a female. We all know how hard it is to do that because marriage changes the woman's name. Even if you do know who she is,(eg: Sarah Lawrence Lawson, b 1803), in order to do MT-DNA, you must trace her daughter and her daughter on down until you get to a female you can test. Just because you can't get a DNA test done, doesn't mean you do not have N/A ancestors. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is just from others' info. I posted earlier today on Goober Pea in Surry Co., NC on the tax lists (1784-1787) and1790-97 in Stokes Co., NC. - sometimes as John G. When did Goober Pea leave for TN with his children? I will look at the 1790 and 1800 census to see how many children he had then. I checked out that site that was posted on this list, and it looks like John (Goober Pea) Lawson and John Black-eye Lawson were in Surry Co., NC in 1784 - 1789 and 1790- 1795 in Stokes Co., NC on the tax lists. They were listed alternately as John Sr. and John Jr. - then John Black-eye and John (G-Pea). Each time they had the same land so it looks like John Sr/B. E. was father or uncle to John G-Pea/John Jr. I know it is not always a son/father then Sr/Jr is used but in this case it seems so. John White Eye is listed separately from Black-eye in 1780 - 1783 and in 1784 John jr also appears. By 1800 (on the census) John White-eye seems to be listed with Wm and Jerusah Lawson Hooker; we know her father dies in her household in 1813. No John Lawsons left in Stokes Co., NC in 1814 on tax list? In 1790 on a tax list in Stokes John Black eye is listed and in 1800 on the census there is a John and wife over 45 and one 26-45. John Black-eye/John Sr is usually listed as living near Patmon who on the estate below is listed as a son/heir. John Black-eye died and his land was sold as listed below: Stokes County Deed Book 5, page 160, 15 October 1803. Thomas Lawson, John Lawson, Letty Lawson, Clem Lawson, Patmon Lawson and Randall Hall are selling to Thomas Gains 200 acres of land on Little Peters Creek. The deed does not say where they acquired the land, but they are obviously tenants in common. There is a state grant 813, dated 5 October 1778, in the Surry County Book of Land Entries, 1778 – 1781 and reentered in Vol. 1, Stokes County Record of Deeds, 1787 – 1793, page 124, Grant 1071, dated 18 May 1781, that was received by John Lawson for 200 acres, which is the same 200 acres that is sold in Deed Book 5, page160 with identical land description shown above. This John Lawson who is identified in the tax lists as John Lawson B.E. (Black Eye). Looks like John Black Eye Lawson’s children and son-in-law are selling his land. It appears that John Goober Pea/John Jr. of the Surry Co., NC tax lists is this John listed as a seller (in 1903) with John Black-eye's children??
