    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bobmclaren1 Surnames: Lawson, MacLaren Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6871.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can you give more details on your grandfather, Samuel Lawson. When did he arrive in Seattle? Did he have any siblings? When and where did he marry and to who? Have you tried to get a copy of his marriage records? When and where did he die? Have you tried to get a copy of his death record. I take it from your user name that your surname is Lawson. If you are male, you may want to consider doing a DNA test. If so, I invite you to join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Lawson is a Clan surname). The project is with Family Tree DNA and I recommend the 67-marker test. If you are female, then perhaps you can get a male Lawson relative to test. If you are interested in the DNA testing, or have questions, please contact me directly at bobmclaren@earthlink.net. Yours aye, Bob McLaren Genealogist, Clan MacLaren Society (based in Scotland) Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan MacLaren Society of North America Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Worldwide) Member, Association of Professional Genealogists Member, Genealogical Speakers Guild Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. So many sources contradict each other. One source says his father was Nathan "Old Nate" Lawson. Another source says "no, no, no" it was a William Lawson. His mother was either Leanna Morgan Lawson or Elizabeth "Wurteh" Watts. I have read from several sources that Drury claimed to be a half brother to Chief Robert Benge. Any truth to that? I have even looked into the Melungeons since Drury was friends of Vardy Collins and Williamson Trent, both Melungeons. And I believe Drury lived on Newman's Ridge where many Melungeons were located. I know that somewhere out there, there is a book, or a person out there who has the answers to Drury's parentage, and ethnic background. My husband is descended from: 1. Drury Lawson, 2. Nathaniel Lawson, 3. William Morgan Lawson, 4. William Crayton Lawson, and 4. Nolan Lawson. Also, does anyone know where Drury is buried? He died in 1847 in Claiborne co. This has been a major brick wall for the past seven years, and I'm ready to throw in the towel! :) I would love to hear from any and all Lawson descendants from the Drury line. I had been posting to answer Kat about Nannie Lawson; that post was in answer to her query. You and I have corresponded before,so of course I am working on the Hooker line from southwestern VA/NC, and I have tried to help you before. I guess you did not remember. I showed you how things might have played out. Some things we will never know but do not get confused by all that "Eurasian" stuff some are going on about. The Q1a3 is not a European line; it originated in Asia and is found there and in this continent still today. All Native American yDNA is Asian in origin. Nothing has been found to say that the Q1a3 (even without the M3 mutation) is not Native American. The oral and written documentation is overwhelmingly on the side of Native American ancestors. It was not popular to be Native American back in the day these Hookers were saying they were Cherokee. They would not have said that unless they had reason to believe it. Saying that they were part Cherokee back then could have led to lots of problems for them with some people. Many people tried to cover up that they were part Native American. These Hookers remembered that they were "allowed" to go to white schools - they said it like it was unusual for them to have gotten to go to school with whites. They would not have said that if they did not have Native AMerican heritage. Celeste Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: CelesteHolly51 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6754.1.2.1.1.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have all that info. I communicate with the admin of the Hooker site; he has posted, on the Hooker project, the link to the the latest info which shows that the Q1a3 subgroup both M3 and M3- (Q1a3 -) can be Native American. One must remember that there are other Q haplos that are found elsewhere, but Q1a3 is Asian in origin which is where the Native American ancestors came from. The M3 is a mutation which occurred right before or right after the Asian peoples moved over the Bering Strait. Some of the Q1a3 males after that time had the M3 mutation and some remained without the M3 mutation. Eventually the M3 mutation may have become the predominant group due to natural selection/survival of the fittest or just natural disasters/occurrences. We know the Q1a3- (with out the M3 mutation) is rarer now than the mutated Q1a3 with M3 in this continent. But since that mutation happened right at the time of the migration to this continent at that time the Q1a3 with M3 was less prevalent at first. Both do occur on this continent, though. The M3 is found on other continents rarely as it was a mutation occurring as the people moved into this continent. The Q1a3 without the M3 still is found in Asia and this continent. Author: CelesteHolly51 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6754.1.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This does not mean they came "through" Europe; Eurasian means the part of Asia that is on the border where Europe touches Asia. The Q1a3 haplo originated in Central Asia and the Middle East (which is Asia, too); that area plus this/our continent is where the majority of that haplo is found today, and the people moved through that area where Asia and Europe touch in Russia/the former USSR into Siberia and across the Bering Strait. This is not a European haplo - there are one or two isolated incidences of Q1a3 found today due to isolated occurrance - maybe Vikings capturing slaves either from our continent or from what is now Russia (the area which is in Asia where some of those Q1a3 people were) and taking them back to Sweden, etc. There are other "Q" haplos found in Europe but not this Q1a3 (either with or w/o M3).
