What is the date of birth and county/state of your Martin Lawson? Author: drdjones Surnames: Lawson, Amyx, Murrell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/3820.1.1.1.2.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, we had found that death certificate a couple of years ago. Since then, through several pension files, we found that the children of Banks, Hennis and Martin Lawson were cousins. While the degree of cousin was not stated, it seems likely to be first cousins. Remember that Mary, daughter of James and Nancy Lawson, had a child out of wedlock with Samuel P. Murrell, the son of James Murrell and Margaret Burton. That child was Joel Murrell who was raise by Pleasant G. Murrell. Some of Pleasant G. Murrell's children also married some of the children of Banks Lawson. So, I think that we are accumulating more evidence that Banks, Hennis, Martin, and James Lawson were brothers and son of Burrell. One mystery is the relationship between Burrell Lawson and Clement Lawson. Some think that they are the same individual. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It's possible that Cinda and Rilla were separated. I do know another Synda (twin of Lynda). On the other hand, I've just run into the Walker family who lists her name as Cinderella (with a sister named Lucinda), so that is probably the correct version Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Many people had little education and did not spell or read well. Also, there is still today no standardization of name spelling - look at the way people spell Debbie/Debbby/Debi, etc. I have seen one person in a family spell a name one way in an old Bible record and another one spell it another way in the same record! The "r" ending was due to regional accents - like people in MA still saying "Cuber" instead of Cuba. Amanda was often written Amander on census records. Sinda or Cinda - either way they were spelling Cinderella. Celeste Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Spears Lawson, my husband's great-grandfather. He was born in 1881 and doesn't show up in a census until 1910. Of course by they he is married so I have not been able to identify his parents. I believe that "Spears" may have been his nickname; on his marriage record he identifies himself as "C. Spears Lawson," but everywhere else he is Spears Lawson. Any help would be much appreciated! Family Tree DNA is having a reduced price sale on DNA testing. The sale starts on 5 June and ends on 25 June. Three tests are on sale -- the 37-marker test, the 67-marker test, and the 37-marker test plus mtDNA test. I recommend the 67-marker test. I invite all male Lawsons to take advantage of this special and join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Lawson is one of the Clan surnames). In order to test in the MacLaren Project, you must be a male bearing the Lawson surname. DNA tesing has proved to be very useful as a tool for our genealogy. I cannot cite prices on RootsWeb, so contact me if you want to know the prices or have other questions about the DNA tests. Or, you can join the Clan MacLarern Surname Project by going to http://www.familytreedna.com and searching for MacLaren.
