    1. [LAWSON] William Benjamin Lawson: from Leeds to Australia
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: johnroberts9159 Surnames: Lawson, Kilburn, Hemingway Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6907/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi I am researching my great x 3 grandfather, William Benjamin Lawson b. 1822 in Leeds, Yorkshire. According to the archive held at Nottingham University on this Lawson family, William Benjamin fled to New Zealand, then Australia, in 1851. See: http://mss-cat.nottingham.ac.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=show.tcl&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqSearch=((AltRefNo='ln')AND(Level='Fonds'))&PF=Yes I have located a record for a marriage and a birth for a William Benjamin Lawson: m. Hellen Adams, 1859, Victoria, Australia and the birth of a child to this couple: William John Lawson, b. 1865, Victoria I hope to visit the university in Nottingham soon to look through the correspondence there relating to the family but for the time being wondered if there were any descendents of William Benjamin's brother, Thomas b. 1821, and sister, Jane, lurking out there who know what happened to William Benjamin. I am also interested to know what happened to William Benjamin's wife, Ann Hemingway, b. 1826. It looks as though she didn't go to Australia with her husband and remarried a Michael Joseph Kilburn in Newcastle. Any help would be much appreciated. Take care John Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: wjking Surnames: Lawson, Harrison Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6906/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have photo of John Lawson (age 5) in front of a house in Dunneville Ont. dated 1925. Trying to find out if he is related to ggg-grandmother Bridget, born about 1820 in Ireland and married to John Harrison in England. Most of thier children were born in Glossop, Derbyshire and they lived in Oldham in 1871. According to my mother she and a brother were smuggled out of Ireland to England by a nanny when thier parents were killed in some kind of riot or uprising (may have to do with mill workers). She also thought the last name was Lawler, but have not found any connection to that name. Additional note, Bridget's brother apparently had some sort of leg deformity or injury. I have another photo of 2 men, one of which has one leg much shorter than the other that could be related, but it has no date or names. Any info, no matter how vague, that I can follow up on would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Laurie Ryan-Day
    3. Seeking more info on this person. I found the 1870 Census with Luke or Duke Lawson living with some Spencers. Need more info on the History of Eaton Township with these surnames. I am trying to figure out if the Lawsons and Spencers are related. I think the Spencers in the household with Mr. Lawson maybe my husband's great-grandmother.

Author: GayleEllison29 Surnames: Lawson, Bryant Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6905.1.1.2.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The best I know there are two Thomas Lawsons in the area. The early Thomas Lawson in Surry in 1779 on Cadles Creek is surely the same Thomas there in 1800 and 1810. There are deed records (see Carl Lawson's DNA project at the website lsited below). The second, younger, Thomas Lawson is in Stokes County. The Thomas Lawson in Surry on Cadles Creek we believe to be married to Sarah Bryant (see Rev. War affidavit of Sarah Lawson dated May 16, 1833, at http://lawsondna.org/Media/NC-Counties/Surry_NC.html). Since a Martin Lawson and Alexander Lawson both lived in Surry, I believe them to be sons of Thomas Lawson. I haven't done much research in Hawkins County, TN. You must have records to include Preston as a son? Why do you think Sarah was a Twitchell? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: GayleEllison29 Surnames: Braswell, Lawson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6905.1.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Randolph Lawson would be about the same age as the Thomas Lawson in Surry, NC. According to the 1800 and 1810 census, Thomas was born about 1755, which would make him the ideal age to be a brother to Randolph. Randolph lives in some of the same places as my Boardvine Braswell (b. 1799 NC) and Elizabeth Lawson (b. 1803 NC), namely Clinton County, NC. Boardvine's and Elizabeth's youngest son, Thomas Lacey Braswell, moved to St. Francios (I think that is the spelling) County, in MO after the Civil War. I am sure that some of the Lawsons in Hawkins County, TN, are kin to the Thomas Lawson of Surry. More research needed. Maybe someone else will read our posts and have more information.
