Author: drdjones Surnames: Lawson, Johnson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6715.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Henry Lawson, from all of the available data, was the 1880 Claiborne County son of Squire and Mary Lawson. Squire was the son of Roark and Elizabeth Williams Lawson. I suspect that NJ was Nancy Jane Johnson who lived just a few houses away in the 1880 census. Roark Lawson was living in Claiborne County in 1870 and 1880. Another son--Isaac--was living in Claiborne County in 1870. A descendent of Isaac participated in DNA testing and the results match that of Henry's descendent. So, I think there is little doubt about Henry's ancestry. Give the DNA results and the census records, I am pretty confident that Roark Lawson was the son of (widow?) Elizabeth Lawson who lived nearby in 1830. It has never been proven that William Lawson of Falling River was the son of John Lawson and Judith. That needs to be proven or disproven. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <LAWSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 07, 2009 1:53 PM Subject: [LAWSON] Bartholomew Lawson Susannah Simkins > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: geoffreyrlawson > Surnames: Lawson, Lawesson, Summers, Gardner, Simkins, Rodgers, Rowland, > Bough, Swynhowe > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6719/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Below is my information with county names updated to their current names. > I would appreciate any comments from people with conflicting information: > > GEOFFREY ROBERT LAWSON | Fairfax, VA | 9 Jul 1982- > GARY WAYNE LAWSON | Fairfax, VA | 28 Mar 1955- > Nancy Jane Griffiths > ADRIAN LEE LAWSON | Scott, Greene Co., IL | NC | 26 Dec 1923-4 Sep 2005 > Natalie Jewell Aylestock > ROY AUGUSTUS LAWSON | Scott, Greene Co., IL | 30 Oct 1880-3 Jan 1934 > Clara Belle Kube > WILLIAM HAMILTON LAWSON | Greene Co., IL | 20 Sept 1846-11 Jan 1912 > Mary Summers > SEVIER LAWSON | Strokes, TN | Whitehall, Greene Co., IL | 1810-15 Jun 1878 > Cynthia A Gardner > JOSHUA LAWSON | NC | Scott, Greene Co., IL | 15 Feb 1788-1 Mar 1844 > Telitha > JOHN LAWSON | Bedford, VA | Albany, Clinton Co., KY | 1752-4 Jan 1838 > Anna > BARTHOLOMEW LAWSON | Campbell Co., VA | Cumberland, NC | 1720-1765 > Susannah Simkins > WILLIAM LAWSON | New Kent, VA | Falling River, VA | 1689-1751 > Ms. Rodgers > JOHN LAWSON | New Kent Co., VA | 1669-? > Judith > EPAPHRODITUS LAWSON | Lancaster Co., VA | New Kent, VA | abt 1644-1706 > unknown > ROWLAND LAWSON | Catterick, ENG | Lancaster Co., VA |1607-3 May 1661 > Letitia Joanna Wales > JOHN LAWSON | Catterick, ENG | Lancaster Co., VA | 1575-1655 > Sarah Rowland > Sir RALPH LAWSON | Burgh Hall, Catterick, Yorkshire, England | 1547-1623 > Elizabeth D Burgh > EDMUND LAWSON Esq. | Cramlington Co., Northumbria | c1520-21 Jul 1551 > Margery Swynhowe > JAMES LAWSON Esq. | Mele St., Newcastle, Northumbria | c1500-14 May 1547 > Alice Bertram > WILLIAM LAWSON | Cramlington Co., Northumbria | c1480-27 Mar 1518 > Ms. Horsely > ROBERT LAWSON | Bywell, Northumbria | c1460-24 Feb 1547 > unknown > THOMAS LAWSON | Bywell, Northumbria | c1440-2 Jul 1489 > Isabella Killinghall > WILLIAM LAWSON | Bywell, Northumbria | ?-27 May 1480 > Agnes Cramlington > JOHN LAWSON | Bywell, Northumbria | 13?? > JOHN Fil Thomas LAWSON | Bywell, Northumbria | 133?-1386 > Margaret > THOMAS LAWESON | Bywell, Northumbria | 130? > ROBERT LAWESON | Bywell, Northumbria | 128? > RALPH Fil Thomas LAWESSON | Bywell, Northumbria | 126? > THOMAS LAWESSON | Bywell, Northumbria | 124? > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am only now finding info that relates to our line. Every Lawson group I look at has the same names. It is untold how many Sarah's existed. My stuff is correct to Wesley Ball Lawson, past that I am not 100% sure of his mother, etc. Tho, I do believe Sally Bailey and James Jonas Lawson is his parents. I have run so many names and am just now getting down to some concrete facts. Amazing, how little we know about our families from the past. I think if I had it to do over I would ask millions of questions, and of course, I would have been sent to the backyard for asking so many questions. It just wasn't allowed! Plus, don't be listening to the adults chatter. That's how it was as I grew up. Now I want to know. I forgot to tell you, My Uncle Ben was named for the brother Benjamin. Do you have email? I have checked the 1841 census for Joseph and find him living in Paisley Low parish with his brother and 2 other adults. My gt gt grandfather William Lawson was living in Paisley Middle parish with his parents and other siblings. I guess someone would need to look at all the Lawsons in the Paisley area to determine if/how they were related. Jan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I too am part Lawson, from my mother's side, and have only recently began to research the Lawson side. My gr grandfather was William Christopher Lawson, b. 17 Feb 1853, d. 17 May 1921. Supposedly, he had a brother Benjamin, that went West taking a herd(?) of turkeys and was never heard from again. I cannot find anything to support this theory. Williams father was Wesley Ball Lawson b. 1824 with no death date, other than he was buried in Hawkins County, TN.and he m. Amanda Bunch b. 29 Jan 1850 in Hawkins County, TN where she also died. Now if my theory is true regarding the mother of Wesley Lawson, then he did have a half brother named, James Benjamin Lawson b. TN and age 11, listed in the 1860 Census. His mother would be Sarah Jones of NC and his father Jonas Lawson. My aunt was telling me this story about the Benjamin, when I began to ask questions about the grandparents and etc. I think people splitting happened back then. If he started for the West he went in a different direction. This may have no bearings on your Lawson's just wanted to share my story with you. Happy Searching, Mary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He is listed in Woonsocket RI as of January 1893..registering a daughter's birth..he was then a mill operator, and had been listed in Norwich, CT as a loom fitter. His wife/widow began listing herself as widow in CT around 1905, but there is no record of him from 1893 on. Either he was secretly interred in a backyard in RI, or he lit out and changed his name! There has been no record of his birth that I have been able to find either..and precious few "Lawsons" in censuses in NY or CT or anywhere thereabout!
