I see that it is 5 years old so I wonder if you have found your information yet. I am a Lawson and in the process of processing my DNA results with the Lawson DNA Project. My Lawson line is from Greene Co., IL but originated in southwestern VA. I am also a descendant of Amanda Williams, born 1820, in Upshur County, VA (now part of WV) on my grandmother's (Natalie Jewell Aylestock-Lawson) line. She was the daughter of a Cherokee Indian and a women named Nancy. Again, this is my grandmother's line so their are only 5 Lawsons that are direct descendants of both Amanda Williams and and my Lawson branch. Don't know if this helps with anything but thought I would say something due to the odd coincidence. Geoff Lawson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. That is how we get cross checks, discover other possibilities to investigate, etc. The main thing is to give the board some idea of the extent or source of information and then let the board members contribute! As for me, I am still trying to find my Mary Lawson's family (the one that married Elisha Lawson and the surety was given by a Joshua Lawson-and the Joshua was probably not yours as the marriage was in 1800!). I am still looking for that 'break' in comments that may give me the lead to place her in a family. She may have been a cousin also as it was another Lawson family. That is how research goes. I think I have had a few notes exchanged with Connie and Tim a few months back. I am not a long time researcher but have lucked into some information (from others) that helped me proceed and learn how to look for information. I only recently found that his given names was Governor Sevier (named for the first governor of Tennessee) and almost certainly descended from Joshua and Anna Lawson. I must admit this is based on research of others - Dale Summers of Greene Co., IL and Connie Lawson of Cambridge, WI - I defer to them for the details but i believe their work to be sound. Everything beyond that has been speculation based on the DNA test of Connie's husband Tim, who is a descender of Sevier's brother and had the same variants in his test. You should really talk to her, member name: tcealawson, to see the strength of our information. I think I have been a little too active in this message post based on my personal knowledge. I just recently began digitizing my families paper records but have done very little research myself. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thus, testing the paternal line will give matches that should be exact. The DNA line from the maternal line has no affect on the male lines (but can be tested separately for the female descendancy). Thus, while your test show the Falling River basic pattern, it does not fit the exact line. Maybe Carl Lawson has an opinion about having one or two or three variants and what that may mean within one grouping like the Falling River one. Along with the DNA tests, the proof or strength of the actual ancestor data is the confirming part. That is one reason I asked about the 'strength' of your listed ancestors in your earlier note. If there is ample proof, then this gives some very valuable information for those of us in the Falling River Lawson's grouping. Have not really figured what the practical options are to explain these marker changes when in the one, two ,three, or four range with all others identical to one line. Maybe we can learn more as results are added. Would really be glad to get results from other William proven (or not!) descendants. With there being three proven sons of William (John, Jonas, and Bartholomew) and only two for Bartholomew (William and Elisha), there are lots of speculation on other sons but so far no testing of anyone from others that match these exactly (with known descendancy). This will not cost you anything. To do so, go to your personal page at Family Tree DNA. You will see a join button on the top left. Please look at my tree for the information on their descendants. I have recently been DNA tested through the Lawson DNA Project and have confirmed that Joshua and the Lawson family of Greene County, IL descended from the Lawson family of Falling River, Virginia. We are still trying to verify just how Joshua relates to the Falling River Lawsons. I think Joshua was the son of John Lawson and Anna Lawson (his first cousin). John was probably the son of Bartholomew Lawson and Susannah Simpkins, the grandson of William Lawson and Isabella Kenny, and the great-grandson of Joshua Lawson and Ann Smith. But none of this is yet verified. information on Bartholomew: http://www.lawsondna.org/Pages/Bartholomew1timeline.html information on William: http://www.lawsondna.org/Pages/William1timeline.html Geoff Lawson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
