In 1898 there was a T.J. Brown bondsman at my g-grandpa's first wedding and in 1920 there was an S.M. Brown bondsman at his third wedding. Maybe descendants of Thomas Jr.? By the way, thanks for posting the Time Magazine link on Lawrence Lawson. It was new to me. To heck with the park service, Lawrence was a national heavy hitter! Elizabeth Lawson, daughter of Hennis, in 1850 she is 24. In 1860 she is still 24. In the 1860 household of James C "Berton" his Elizabeth is 25. I am trying to figure out how many of the children in Hennis household belong to Elizabeth. I wonder how well Burrell Harris knew the Gibsons? He married Jane Burton, daughter of William Burton and Salina Murrell. Salina was the daughter of James Murrell Sr and Nancy Lawson. William Burton was know as William Trent before 1860, and was likely the son of Samuel Trent who was said to be an illegitimate boy and son or stepson of Alexander Trent Sr. William Burton was the father of James C. It looks like we are descended from a Harris! These were supposedly Melungeon Gibsons and the haplotype is I1. At 67 markers the only match was a Harris, but there was a 3-marker difference (I don't understand what I am typing) but it said there was a 99% surety that they shared an ancestor 24 generations ago. At 25 years per generation, that's a loooooooooooooong time. Not much help. I am surprised by the multiple marriages. I also sent you the links to both the sites. He was a handsome man and was very accomplished professionally and personally. Fluent in Spanish, played piano...what a guy! A valuable diplomat and engineer. My former husband was in the National Park Service and Lawrence was included in a international (Mexico/U.S.) committee with some some of the giants of the park service. That, alone, would have told me his professional stature. His daughter also posed for a mural that is in El Paso depicting the history of the settling of Texas. There is no record of their marriage, and she could have married him anywhere--NC or TN or IN. It could have been a second marriage for her as well. She could have had children by another husband. That is the problem that we face. On interesting fact is that Clement and Mecca had a son named Bird, and Bird joined the Union Army in MO during the Civil War with Hennis Banks, who was the son of John Banks, who I believe was the son of Jesse Banks. Hennis Lawson lived next to Jesse Banks in 1830 Jackson County, IN. So, this makes me suspect that Clement's first wife may have been a sister of Jesse Banks or Jesse Banks married a sister of Clement Lawson. So, this brings up the possibility again that Clement and Burrell Lawson were the same individual or that they were brothers. All that we know for sure is that the children of Banks, Hennis and Martin Lawson were cousins. It doesn't necessarily mean that the three were brothers. Have no idea if this will help but there are four Lawson families represented in this narrative with a Clem Lawson near the end. The first Lawson family given is Nathan Lawson b ca 1778, a son of Nathan Lawson b ca 1755 VA. Nathan b ca 1778 and his son Nathan b ca 1813 are shown in the 1850 Miller County, MO Census and lived on the Dubbert place which was right on the Miller/Maries County line. The David (A.) Lawson with sons Riley and Wiley was a son of Nathan Lawson b ca 1778 (brother of Nathan b ca 1813) and also lived in Miller County, MO and is shown there. Riley was William Riley Lawson and I THINK lived on Dog Creek in a county farther south in MO. http://www.hwy28spur.com/king/kh_ch52.htm -----Original Message----- From: lawson-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:lawson-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, June 11, 2009 3:58 PM To: LAWSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LAWSON] Partial description of Gaines Lawson This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I wish I knew where Mom found her information, or if it was a surmisal. I checked CA death certs online today and it will be nearly $40, which I don't have. If Gaines never talked about his family I am afraid the death cert won't show much. I wish somebody had his military records. They might show his father. I can't afford it. If Clement paid Mary's debt, seems it would be a good bet that she was his wife. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It may be true, but so far no one has offered to provide any documentation in support of the theory. One thing that we have to consider is that Burrell and Clement were the same individual. In some ways, that would help sort this out. We do know that Banks Lawson posted bail for Pascal Lawson, suggesting that Pascal was a son or nephew of Banks Lawson. Pascal and Clement moved to Pike County, OH. I think this was the Clement who paid off Reuben Mabe's debt (actually Mary Mabe's debt). He was married to a Mary in 1850 Pike County. I think this may have been Reuben Mabe's daughter. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
