I will track down the records. Now, we do have one Lawson confirmed to be a Willis. A family story said that Rufus Lawson, son of Sarah Manis, widow of Palestine Lawson, was the son of Iredell Willis. The DNA data confirm that the Rufus line was Willis. Often family stories are wrong, but in this case it appears to be correct. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Another reason is that James Willis was prominent in prosecuting L&A females in Hawkins County. I guess it could have been a covering act, but I am not sure. There is no record of this group in the 1836 census. My strong suspicion is that Piney was a Willis--natural or stepchild and that James Willis was her brother or uncle or cousin. Several Willis males went off to Alabama. She could be related to one of those. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I donh't remember which county but next to the Lawsons in Pike Co., OH. John Monk who was living with our Paschal Lawson in 1850 (s/o Shadrack and names a sons Shadrack/Shady, Larkin etc.) lines all go to Pike Co., OH and bordering counties of Jackson, Lawrence and Scioto with (with a Larkin & Dauswell Rodgers, plus James, Moses and Samuel also found in Lawrence Co. by 1840). Later Preston Lawson m: Lydia Burch - s/o ?Elisha Lawson of White Co. and others in Indiana appears in Pike Co., OH, Benton Township. Since our Lawsons - through the Roberts-Howe connection were related to the Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Howe) Burk of Pike Co., OH (also from TN)- maybe Burk is german "Burch". Preston's father Elisha Lawson (m: Rader) and has neighbouring "Burch" family in IN. Elisha's family seem to have come from the "south of the Holston river Lawsons" as did the Rader/Raeder/Roeder family near the Greene Co. line.
