    1. [LAWSON] Another DNA Special
    2. robert mclaren
    3. Family Tree DNA's special was over on 30 June. However, they are now running another special that is good through July. Three tests are covered by the special -- a 37-marker Y-DNA test, a 67-marker Y-DNA test, and the mtDNA Plus test (HVR1+HVR2). Of these, I recommend the 67-marker Y-DNA test. This gives us the most information for genealogical purposes. If you are interested in your deep ancestry on your maternal side, then you may want to consider the mtDNA Plus test. The special price is good only if you sign up for a surname project such as the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Lawson, Losson are Clan surnames). You must be male since the Y-DNA test is done on the Y-chromosome (the male sex chromosome). (For the mtDNA Plus test, you can be either male or female.) In order to join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project you must also bear one of the Clan surnames (in this case, Lawson, Losson, or spelling variations). If you bear another surname, but because of adoption or other reasons, are actually a Lawson, Losson (on a straight-line male descent), you can also join. So, if you havn't yet tested this is the time to do it. If you have tested, perhaps your know of a distant male cousin bearing a surname of the Clan to test. In this case, the cousin should be at least a third cousin and more distant would be better. Ideally, what you should do is to test a straight-line male descendant of each son of your most distant ancestor. This will give us the Y-DNA signature of your family and allow me to derive the Y-DNA signature of that most distant ancestor. If you have any questions, contact me at bobmclaren@earthlink.net. This is a limited-time offer and will to end on 31 July. If you have been thinking about doing a DNA test, this would be a good time at a good price. Or you can order at the folloiwng URL: www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=MacLaren&Code=T20437 The Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project now has 410 members and as we continue to grow, the odds of finding matches (and therefore relatives) increase. 1. [LAWSON] DNA Special Extended Until 30 June
    2. robert mclaren
    3. Family Tree DNA is running a limited-time special that you may want to consider. This special is for a combo test -- a 37-marker Y-DNA test plus a mtDNA test. While I normally recommend their 67-marker Y-DNA test since that gives me the most information to work with, this special is very difficult to pass up if you have Scottish blood <grin>. You can sign up for this special and later upgrade your 37-marker results to 67-markers for an additional cost, but the total cost of the special and the upgrade is less than that for a 67-marker test. Additionally, you will get a mtDNA test out of the deal which will tell you of your deep maternal ancestry. The special price is good only if you sign up for a surname project such as the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project. You must be male since the Y-DNA test is done on the Y-chromosome (the male sex chromosome). In order to join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project you must also bear one of the Clan surnames (Lawson, Losson, or spelling variants). If you bear another surname, but because of adoption or other reasons, are actually a Lawson (on a straight-line descent), you can also join. So, if you havn't yet tested this is the time to do it. If you have tested, perhaps your know of a distant cousin to test. In this case, the cousin should be at least a third cousin and more distant would be better.
