    2. Brenda, I have knowledge that my George William Lawson married Sally Shockley for they are my aunt and uncle and I have their pictures.  But there is/are more than one George William Lawson who lived in Patrick County.  You will have to tell more about yourself or them; where did they live, in Meadows of Dan, Carroll County, and give me more names.  I thought I wrote you he may have been Isham Lawson's George W. Lawson.  Let me know. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cplawson Surnames: Lawson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lawson/6791.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This Lawson family is not of my relation but I have read many of the posts as I receive them on the message board mailing list. I have also researched quite a few other Lawson families in SW VA so I might be able to help narrow this down for you. The 1900 census noted your George and Elizabeth had been married 17 years so he should hopefully be found with his parents in 1880, if they were still living. Using the 1880 census do a search on any George Lawson born in Virginia within five years of 1859 and there are only eight of them found. And only three that show them born 1858-1860. One is a black man, George, no middle initial, age 22, married to Phoebe and living in Rockbridge Co, VA. The second is a white man, George age 20 married to Malinda and living in Rockingham Co, VA. The third is a white man, George W., age 22, single and living with his father Madison L. Lawson in Patrick Co, VA. Note that those other two counties are much farther from Carroll Co, where as Patrick Co borders Carroll. Given the name Madison having been used in the children of your George and the close proximity of the counties I would think that George, son of Madison is a good candidate for your George. Madison Lawson had a very large family. You might try following some of his other children and see if there are any common factors with George. I think there has been past discussion on the Lawson family that includes Madison, which could be helpful to you. And also mentions of DNA testing that has been done somewhere within that family. You can access the 1880 census here for free. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. LAWSON---where they came from before they settled in Carroll County, VA & who each of their parents are and/or siblings. According to my grandfather's (Earlie Madison "Dock" Lawson)marriage record (03NOV1918 in Carroll): GEORGE W. LAWSON born 01 MAY 1859 in VA, and died 19 JULY 1932 in Carroll County. ELIZABETH W.(i don't know her maiden name--my mother always said it starts with a D) born MARCH 1861 in VA; died 1926 in Carroll County. They both are buried in the Woodlawn United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll County,VA. Their headstone info reads different from the info on my grandfather's marriage record. *** HEADSTONE INFO: Has George listed as George Jackson not George W. but the dates are the same and the headstone has Elizabeth listed as Winnie L., wife of George Lawson 1858-1926.*** But my mother tells me this is the burial place of Dock' parents. George and Elizabeth's children are: James William; John C. Lawson; Betty Lawson; Sarah Virginia Lawson; Earlie Madison "Dock" Lawson; Peter H.Lawson; Alice Lawson; Susannah Lawson; Jessie Lawson; and Kyle Samuel Lawson all were born in Carroll County and are buried in Carroll County. If anyone has any info that can give me a lead to go on I would appreciate it. I know 3 or possible counties that they could have come from but cannot link either dates or spouses. Am hoping someone out there has my link--would really appreciate it. Thanks, Brenda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. IF you ever find a connection between Andrew Lawson b 1795 with his parents, PLEASE send a copy of your source to the CLAY COUNTY GENEALOGY SOCIETY PO Box 54 Center Point, IN 47802.
