    2. Dear vljones11, Where is your documentation that the Lawson Indian stories are bogus? You can't have it both ways declaring one is true and not another. I happen to be part Indian on another side than my Lawson side. But just because I can't prove my Lawson Indian heritage doesn't mean it's bogus. As a former Vice-Chairman of the American Indian Council, I know that marriages between Caucasian men and Indian women were common, whether it was a common law marriage or an ordained one. When it comes to our ancestral heritage there is only one fool-proof way to determine heritage, let alone parentage — and that's through DNA testing. As DNA testing becomes more sophisticated I'm certain our knowledge base will increase. Right now, it's just not fair to throw cold water on something you can't prove either. The white man stole this country from the Indians. We broke every single treaty the United States ever made with Indian tribes. I set up the very first meeting ever between an Indian chief and the President of the United States and it was in the 1990s, hundreds of years after the deeds were done. Please don't tell me what's Indian and what isn't.

If they have, we can tell if they will connect. If they haven't and you know of some, now is a good to to do the DNA test. We will need a male Lawson since this is a test on the Y-Chromosome (the male sex chromosome). The reason is is a good time now is that Family Tree DNA, the company used by both the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Lawson is a Clan surname) and the Lawson Surname DNA Project, is running a reduced price special on the 37- and 67-marker DNA tests. (I highly recommend the 67-marker test since this gives us the most information.) This special ends on 31 December, so any orders need to be placed by then. If you have one who is willing to test, you can go to [20]http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=T20437andjoin. This is the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project. If you do this, I also recommend joining the Lawson Surname DNA Project once the first results come in. There is no extra cost to join a second project. 2. According to DNA records, these folks are indeed relatives of my Lawson clan, although they are distant ones. Someday, we're going to get proof that all Lawsons are related in some way. We can prove back to James A. Lawson, born in South Carolina in 1807 who lived in Wayne County, Tennessee and died in Houston County, Tennessee in 1882. Maybe this will open more doors. This means those Perry and Craighead County, Arkansas and the Missouri Lawsons are all related to our group and the Mississippi Lawsons. We are unsure who James A. Lawson's father was although we believe it was Thomas Lawson who lived near him in Tennessee. Maybe this will eventually help us prove that connection. Bill Lawson Little Rock
