Laws 1932-2002 Robert A. Laws of Cottage Grove died Jan. 21, 2002, of complications from lung cancer. He was 69. He was born in Medford to Alva and Ruth Laws on Sept. 5, 1932. He was raised in Roseburg, graduating from Roseburg High School in 1951, and began his career as a police officer in Corvallis. He was transferred to Eugene, where he was a sergeant in the Eugene Police Department until his retirement in 1989. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Motorcycle Division of the EPD. After retiring, he moved to Cottage Grove and founded BCB Manufacturing Co., specializing in making custom gift boxes for candy and wine. In his spare time he enjoyed photography, woodworking, and was a private pilot. Mr. Laws served as an aerial photographer with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Nola K. Lund in Eugene in October of 2000. She; a son, Robert C. Laws of Gallatin, Tenn.; a daughter, Teresa Handcock of Springfield; and 11 grandchildren survive him. A memorial service was held Jan. 26 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Eugene. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium was in charge of arrangements.
