Saline Reporter - Saline MI HERRING, Cathy Jo Laws The Angel Lady recieved her wings on Friday, September 12, 1997 at her home at age 32. Cathy Jo was born to Duane and JoAnn Laws on October 1, 19164 in Provo, UT. Married August 7, 1987 to John Henry Herring in the Ann Arbor Botanical Garden and later sealed for eternity in the LDS Washington D.C. Temple. She graduated with an Associates Degree from Washtenaw Community College and received her Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Michigan University. She became a certified teacher in 1994 and taught her children in home school. Growing up, she was a Girl Scout and earned every patch available. Cathy Jo was an active member of the Church of Jeasus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was involved in the childrens program, the young worman's organization and served in many capasities. Cathy Jo is survived by her husband John; their four children, Joshua, age 9; Adam, age 7, Elisabeth, age 5, and Jacob, age 3. Her parents, four brothers, Stephen (Terri) Laws and Mark Laws, all of Ypsilanti, Philip (Karen) Laws of Malboro, Tn; two sisters, Suzanne (Arlen) Runsey of Marysville, WA, and Areta (Darren) Peterson of Euless, TX. Mondays were always Family night as they gathered for scripture reading, games, treats and singing. The calendar reminded the children when it was their special day to say family prayer. Cathy Jo's example taught her children to love and share. At Christmas time they chose special families to "Secret Santa" with little gifts and goodies. Throughout the years whe was constantly looking for opportunities to make others happy. The children looked forward to their birthdays because their Mom made them extra special. Growing up, Cathy Jo know and always Chose the Right, reminding her brothers and sisters to do the same "CTR" She always had a smile on her face, and always had ideas how to make ordinary things fun. As Cathy Jo valiantly fought cancer over the past hree years, she spent countless hours uplifting others fighting the same battle. Her husband John expressed the great blessing it has been to their family as she had touched the lives of so many others. Her life was an example of courage and faith for everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Septmber 20 at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 941 S. Grove, Ypsilanti with Bishop Brent Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. In lieu of floweres Cathy Jo requested donations be made to their children for future education. Envelopes will be available at the Janowiak Funderal Hom, Geer-Logan Chapel, where the family will receive friends Thursday September 18 from 6-9 p.m. and Friday September 19, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. and at the Church Saturday from 10-10:45. am.
