    3. >Hi Milo, > >I belong to the LAW/LAWS list. I have extensive research on the Laws family. > My grandmother was the youngest daughter and eleventh child of James Laws. > Her brother was James Robert Laws, father of Homer Laws and grandfather of >Floyd. I have been sending all my research to Floyd and so you probably have >the same information. Floyd has sent me extensive information on descendants >that has been quite helpful. I also have your Sarah Blanche Smith, Floyd's >mother. Floyd's zip code is 66040. I have sent him all this information in >print outs, but he always insists on rewriting it in long hand. My first >Laws, was James Laws 1711 MA. If you want any further information I may have >please contact me. Did you get a copy of the Laws History? I had 25 >requests from the list when I offered to send it. It was sent to me by a >young man in England and is quite interesting. I will send it to you, if you >missed it and would like to see it. I will check out your web site. > >Jean Suman, Overland Park, KS. I hope you don't mind, Jean, but I'm going to share our exchange with the other LAWS list subscribers. I "own" a couple of surname discussion lists, Sutton and Brinson, and it's disappointing that many people don't share their success stories. It would give others hope that they, some day, will make an online connection. These family discussion lists are *powerful* research tools. Jean, I was born almost 69 years ago in Hartford, Kansas, but I don't personally know Floyd, although I've knocked on his door a couple of times when he wasn't home. My cousins told me he is a very nice man. I grew up in nearby Emporia, worked at The Gazette, and was elected to the Kansas Legislature when I was 21. At age 25, I managed Gov. George Docking's first statewide campaign. We moved to California when I was about 30, but we visit Kansas four or five times a year. I retired from the Los Angeles Times about six years ago. Floyd is one of my best sources of Sutton family history -- and, yes, he writes everything out by long hand -- on both sides of the paper. I found him through a researcher, Elsie David, in Salem, Oregon, who has no direct ties to either of us. She is, as far as I'm concerned, the premiere researcher of the Sutton surname, having worked at it more than 30 years. (Thanks, to Floyd, <grin> she's probably an expert on LAWS, too!) Like me, it's evident Floyd has spent a lot of time in the Lyon County Historical Society archives department and the genealogy section of the Emporia Public Library. I've probably seen your research work, Jean, because Floyd has sent me a lot of data on Laws, but I think I missed your post about Laws history. I just subscribed a few days ago. I would appreciate it f you would send it again -- and anything else you think might be helpful. Please stay in touch!
