MATHESON STONY POINT - Georgie Vernon Laws Matheson, 81, of Lee Matheson Road, Taylorsville, died Dec. 7, 2001, at Catawba Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health. Born Oct. 9, 1920, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late Troy and Edna Davis Laws. A member of White Plains Baptist Church, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Matheson; two brothers, Dewey Laws and Ardel Laws; and two sisters, Luna Goforth and Mary Sweet. Survivors include two sons, James Matheson of Taylorsville and Kenneth Childers of Taylorsville; two daughters, Lorene Mays of Taylorsville and Alice Taylor of Stony Point; a sister, Bertha Childers of Taylorsville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Tony Daniels at 2 p.m. Sunday at her church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Chapman Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight and at the residence at other times.
