Laws, 58, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Ron Goodman officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery, Clinton. Mr. Laws died Sunday, Nov. 8,, 1992, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He moved to Lawrence from Eudora two years ago. Mr. Laws was born May 29, 1934, in Hartford, to Earl Sampson and Alice Parry Laws. He had been a social studies teacher at Eudora High School from 1971 until his retirement in 1992. He also had coached football, track, and basketball at the school. He received his bachelor's degree in education in 1961 from Emporia State University where he played football and was a member of the Letterman's Club. He was a member of the Kansas-National Education Assn. and attended the First Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Air force from 1953 until 1957. Mr. Laws married Pat Gantenbein on March 10, 1990, in Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Julie Laws Stewart and Karla Laws, both of Eudora; a stepdaughter, Vicki Hartpence, Lawrence; two sons, Mark Laws, Ottawa, and Cord Laws, Kansas City, MO.; a stepson David Gantenbein, Wichita; his mother, Alice M. Laws, Eudora; a brother, Earl Laws, Jr., Gretna, LA.; a sister, Betty L. Bowers, Montpelier, VT.; and seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Eudora High School Athletic Department or the Children's Department at the First Christian Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the mortuary.
