Alice Marie McMurphey, 91, Emporia, KS. passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center, Olathe, KS. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Carlson Funeral Home, Emporia, KS. there will be a private interment at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Lyon County Historical Society and may be sent in care of Carlson Funeral Home, 501 W. Sixth Ave., Emporia, KS. 66801. Mrs. McMurphey was born August 28, 1909, in Melvern, KS. to Vinson and Mary Elizabeth (Young) Laws. She was a life long resident of Lyon County, KS. and had received Licensed Practical Nurse training. She was a seamstress at Grandma's Pincushion and at Meschke's Men Store. She was married March 9, 1926, to George Olin McMurphey, in Madison, KS. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1961. She was also preceded in death by a son, Don McMurphey; a daughter, Mary Alice Blair; three sisters, Bertha Laws, Ida Laws, and Helen Laws; four brothers, Walter Laws, George Laws, John Laws, and Howard Laws, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Survivors include six daughters, Margaret Jean McHugh of Hartford, KS., Myra Jones, of Emporia, KS., Mildred Moorman, of Mission Hills, KS., Marjorie Hylton, of Houston, TX., Marilyn Lambert of Overland Park, KS., and Marlene Buck, of Olathe, KS.' two sons, William McMurphey of Sabetha, KS., and Glen McMurphey of Emporia, KS; and two sisters, Edna Craig, of Topeka, KS.; and Margaret Garrison, of Tulsa, OK.; 31 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren.
