John P. Law Gen. Laws was born August 7, 1836 in Darlington, South Carolina. He attended public schools and Old St. John's Academy before entering the South Carolina Military Academy. He graduated from there in 1856. When the war of northern aggression started, Laws recruited and became captain of a company, composed of his students. The company became part of the 4th Alabama Inf. Laws was severly wounded at First Manassas and again at Cold Harbor in 1864. He was commissioned Major Gen. on March 20th 1865, recieved his parole in North Carolina in May 1865. He married Jane Elizabeth Latta on March 9, 1863. Law was the last Confederate Major Gen. to die, passed away on October 31, 1920 in Bartow, Florida. Take Care, Derek R.
