    3. Thank you for adding me to the LAWS list! My mother and I are the official family tree searchers in our bunch! I love to research, and am looking forward to filling in the gaps on the LAWS side. My Gr-Gr Grandmother was Martha Elizabeth LAWS. She was born in New Tazewell (Claiborne County) Tennessee, 5/11/1868 and died 3/1941. Her father (as far as we know) was Salem C. LAWS (born about 1816...where??) and he married Mary EUBANKS (born about 1824...where??). Salem and Mary had six other children (all older than Martha Elizabeth)...Camelia LAWS, Susan Ruth LAWS, Mary LAWS, Laura I.C. LAWS, Widey C. LAWS, and John A. LAWS. We do know that my Gr-Gr Grandmother Martha Elizabeth LAWS was raised by two single "old maid" aunts. The story goes that Martha Elizabeth was left on the doorstep of these two aunts as a little baby. We have never been able to find out why...or the names of the two aunts. They raised her there in New Tazewell, Tennessee. Could it be her mother Mary died giving childbirth, as there were no other children after 1868...and she was about 44 years old at the time? And, her father..Salem C. Laws...was about 52...and had no way to care for a baby...we just don't know! We do know Martha Elizabeth grew up to be a fine young lady, and married William Fletcher KING there in New Tazewell. William Fletcher KING was called "Willie" by his family. We don't have very much on him, but know he was born 10/28/1865 and died 5/24/1902. We do know his father was David KING, a Presbyterian minister, and his family came from Virginia. Martha Elizabeth and William had two sons...Elard KING and (my Grandfather, Otis KING). The family moved to Ryan, Oklahoma, and that is where William died and is buried. Otis, my Grandfather, later moved to California (was in San Francisco during the great earthquake) and married, then moved to Texas. We would love to find out about the LAWS side of the family...especially about our Martha Elizabeth's father's family and those two aunts who raised her. Were they her mother's sisters? (Making them two old maid sisters with the last name of EUBANKS...) Or, were they sisters of Salem C. LAWS (last names of LAWS...never married...from Tennessee??) We will share what we have on the family so far...it is exciting to know we might find them after all these years! Thanks! Sincerely, Nancy Clayton :-)
