    1. [LAWS-L] Payton LAW (b.1847) son of Jefferson LAW
    2. In my efforts to track down Peyton A. LAW I have had to research and eliminate other Payton/Paton/Peton LAWs. Below is some additional information on Jefferson LAW's son, Payton, who unfortunately is not my ancestor but some of you may want to add his family to your files. I'll be more than happy to share more details if you are interested. Descendants of Jefferson Law 1 Jefferson LAW b: September 30, 1813 in Madison Co., Ala. . +Mary CHANDLER b: 1810 in South Carolina .. 2 Paton LAW b: 1847 in Woodville, Jackson, Ala. ..... +Mary (*) LAW b: 1848 in Alabama ...... 3 Jefferson Rollins LAW b: 1869 in Kennamer, Marshall, Ala. ...... 3 Joseph R. LAW b: 1878 in Kennamer, Marshall, Ala. ...... 3 Permelia LAW b: 1880 in Kennamer, Marshall, Ala. Payton's father, Jefferson LAW, died when Payton was 6 years old in 1853. According to the following, Jefferson LAW and family had moved away from Marshall Co., Alabama some time between 1850 and 1853. According to the census records the family appears to have moved back by 1860 or they never left in the first place and the court was mistaken. March 28, 1853. Jefferson Law lately died intestate in this county. It is shown to the satisfaction of this Court he was not an inhabitant of this state, but died Feb. 22, 1853, leaving assets in this county. Neither the widow or next of kin are residents of this state, and Henry I. Chandler is appointed his administrator, with Zacheus C. Kennamer and Elias M. Chandler his sureties. On page 17, Feb 20, 1855, Mary Law, widow of Jefferson Law dec'd petitions for division; as the widow she is entitled to one fifth of the estate; Isham Chandler is the administrator. Page 18 is a list of Heirs, viz: Mary Law, widow of Jefferson Law dec'd and Hannah Law, John Law, Robert Law, Marion Law, Nancy Law and Peyton Law, infant children of the deceased. On page 21 is the final settlement of the estate, which is divided among Mary Law, the widow, Hannah Law, a daughter, John Law, a son, Robert Law, a son, Marion Law, a son, Nancy Law, a daughter and Peyton Law, a son of the decedent. --Pauline Jones Gandruid, Alabama Records, V139, Marshall Co., Page 79-80 Alabama, Marshall Co., Census of 1850 23rd subdivision 43 43 Law, Jefferson 36 m Farmer 800 Ala.
