    1. [LAWS-L] John Paris LAWS, 1886-1964 NC>TN>VA?
    2. Nancy Clayton
    3. Hello Laws cousins: I'm still searching for any info about my LAWS family of eastern Tennessee from the 1860s on. However, I came across two LAWS who may be related to my Selim LAWS. Does anyone have these LAWS names in their line? 1. John LAWS b. (1840-1870)? d. ? m. Mary Catherine COLLINGSWORTH 2. John Paris LAWS b. 9 MAY 1886 Statesville, North Carolina d. 25 SEP 1964 Tennessee? m. America Tennessee PRESLEY b. 15 AUG 1886 Hawkins County, Tennessee d. 1 MAR 1993 Pennington Gap, Virginia I'm not sure how they fit -- and they may not -- but I am stuck on getting any further back on my LAWS family. I have had one excellent clue about the father or grandfather of my Selim Laws -- found in an obituary about his grandson. My LAWS line had members who served in the Revolutionary War. All we know is that my Selim LAWS was born in North Carolina---but don't know if these Revolutionary War relatives were living in North Carolina during the war. Would love to hear from anyone who might have links to my line. Thank you. Nancy :-) ======================================================================= ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Family of Selim (Salem-Celim) or William Celim LAWS & Mary EUBANKS: Mary EUBANKS was born about 1824 in North Carolina. (Mary is also listed as Elizabeth EUBANKS and Mary Elizabeth EUBANKS from other cousins researching her history.) She married Selim C. (William C.) LAWS about 1840-1845 in North Carolina. He was also born in North Carolina about 1816-1820. He was a carpenter. He has been listed as Celim LAWS and as William C. LAWS (William Celim LAWS)? NOTE: There is a Seli C. LAWS at Sweet Home Post Office in the 1860 Iredell Census? Is this Selim? There is a Salina LAWS in Fraleys District -- is she a sister? Celem C. Laws and wife (Mary E. EUBANKS) were on the 1850 census for Iredell County, North Carolina: Roll 634, p.p. 422-423 > Celem C. Laws, 34, farmer, $150, NC > Mary E. Laws, 26, NC > Eliza J. Laws, 9, NC > Wm. E. Laws, 8, NC > Ann Laws, 6, NC > Sarah E. Laws, 3, NC > Ruth S. Laws, 1, NC This is the only Laws household in Iredell Co in 1850, but there were Laws households in Wilkes Co, which is not far away, and in Henderson, and in Yancey, but we can't connect them to our Selim. Children of Selim (Celim) LAWS and Mary (Elizabeth) EUBANKS: > 1. Eliza J. LAWS b. abt 1841 North Carolina (husband may have been Charles Harris?) > 2. William E. 3. Linda-- I haven't been able to discover the sibs or parents yet. Most of the census records from the counties involved do not seem to be on-line and I haven't had time to go down and check. All I know is that he married Susan Arabell (Belle) Webber (she had been married before and had a son Arl(e)y but I don't know the name of her first husband) and they (Squire and Arabell) had two children, Nellie and James Lindsey (my grandfather). Belle apparently outlived Squire as I have a picture of her and my aunt remembers her. I think she is buried in Olney. Nellie married French Conour. My father was born in Claremont. I found a mention to a 1860 Lawrence Co. census to a "Squir Laws, 4" posted on a message board in 1999, but the person who posted it isn't using the same e-mail address as she did then. They had Squir listed under Lindsey Laws in Lawrence + Crawford County census, but that didn't match the children I had found earlier for Lindsey Laws. Carlene
