I am very new at all this but am determined to find my family history. I grew up in St. Louis.I was always told my Mom's maiden name was Law and her Mother Maymie Law was born 12/12/1894 or96.Her mother was Lucinda but II'm not sure of her maiden name. I was always told it was Clemmons and her first husband and father of her kids( Maymie,John,Ed & Will) was Thomas Law. When he died she married A man named ? Curtain. Now my confusion....In the 1910 census in Butler co.,Mo where I always believed they came from, I find a Lucinda Catain,Edgar Catain,& Maymie,Johnnie& Eddie Laws. It says the kids are step kids & that she has 4 living children. Does any of this fit,if so now what do I do? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks,Karen
Hello Laws researchers: I just received a list of the LAWS patriots who served in the Revolutionary War -- from a look-up person at the DAR. I am hoping someone will have information on one of these men -- to link him to my GG Grandfather. The one clue we have is from an obituary of one of his great grandsons. The obituary stated this great grandson had "come from Revolutionary stock." I am trying to find the parents or grandparents of my GG Grandfather - Selim (William Selim) LAWS who was born 1815-1820 in North Carolina. He was living in Iredell County, NC in 1850, but moved to Tennessee after the Civil War. His name has been spelled Selim, Celim, Salem, and one cousin has him as Bill (short for William) LAWS. Please -- can anyone place my William to any of these men? Thanks. Then from 1900 it was part of the Southern Pacific Co. I want to thank all of you who took the time to express your opinions regarding the obituary postings. I didn't receive a single negative note so it appears everyone wants us to continue having those postings filter through to the list. I will continue searching for Laws obits and will post any that I find. Thanks again for your input and support! Wanda __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Wanda, Please keep the OBITS.....they are a HUGE help!! Roy
Hello Wanda and LAWS list folks: YES! Please keep posting the obituary notices on our list - and the links. I never know when I will come across someone in my line -- like last year when I found a cousin. Reading the notices in my e-mail LAWS list is perfect. Thank you for your work and time, Wanda. Nancy :-) Great-Great Granddaughter of William Selim Laws (Iredell NC) Great Granddaughter of Martha Elizabeth Laws (Claiborne County TN)
I like the obit postings - it gives me a source of possible family info that I don't have to search for. I was thrilled to find the obit of a great uncle here - I never would have seen it otherwise since death was in Calif and I live in Illinois. Hi Wanda, Thank you for posting the obituaries. I was home for the small obituary of my Dad, but was already home when the local paper came out. That is the one you published. Thanks. Hi Wanda: Haven't been active as am working mostly with my people in England and, in US, don't seem to have any connections!!! But - do like the obits showing - give a lot of info to those who have found connections in the US and they don't have to go to a lot of lists to search for the initial stuff. IMHO it is a very great help. Best regards, Virginia vlaws@sginet.com [I look at the list every day = hoping. One of these days....vml
