I hope this obit will help someone. I wanted to share as it is truly a loving tribute to this person. Saline Reporter - Saline MI HERRING, Cathy Jo Laws The Angel Lady recieved her wings on Friday, September 12, 1997 at her home at age 32. Cathy Jo was born to Duane and JoAnn Laws on October 1, 19164 in Provo, UT. Married August 7, 1987 to John Henry Herring in the Ann Arbor Botanical Garden and later sealed for eternity in the LDS Washington D.C. Temple. She graduated with an Associates Degree from Washtenaw Community College and received her Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Michigan University. She became a certified teacher in 1994 and taught her children in home school. Growing up, she was a Girl Scout and earned every patch available. Cathy Jo was an active member of the Church of Jeasus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was involved in the childrens program, the young worman's organization and served in many capasities. Cathy Jo is survived by her husband John; their four children, Joshua, age 9; Adam, age 7, Elisabeth, age 5, and Jacob, age 3. Her parents, four brothers, Stephen (Terri) Laws and Mark Laws, all of Ypsilanti, Philip (Karen) Laws of Malboro, Tn; two sisters, Suzanne (Arlen) Runsey of Marysville, WA, and Areta (Darren) Peterson of Euless, TX. Mondays were always Family night as they gathered for scripture reading, games, treats and singing. The calendar reminded the children when it was their special day to say family prayer. Cathy Jo's example taught her children to love and share. At Christmas time they chose special families to "Secret Santa" with little gifts and goodies. Throughout the years whe was constantly looking for opportunities to make others happy. The children looked forward to their birthdays because their Mom made them extra special. Growing up, Cathy Jo know and always Chose the Right, reminding her brothers and sisters to do the same "CTR" She always had a smile on her face, and always had ideas how to make ordinary things fun. As Cathy Jo valiantly fought cancer over the past hree years, she spent countless hours uplifting others fighting the same battle. Her husband John expressed the great blessing it has been to their family as she had touched the lives of so many others. Her life was an example of courage and faith for everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Septmber 20 at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 941 S. Grove, Ypsilanti with Bishop Brent Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. In lieu of floweres Cathy Jo requested donations be made to their children for future education. Envelopes will be available at the Janowiak Funderal Hom, Geer-Logan Chapel, where the family will receive friends Thursday September 18 from 6-9 p.m. and Friday September 19, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. and at the Church Saturday from 10-10:45. am. Today I was at the library going through film of the Franklin Co. census looking for my Laws family. I found another, not related, but thought I would jot down the names. They could be a family someone on this list is researching. William Laws 55, Amelie Laws 57, William Laws 20, Charley Laws 18. and Fred Laws 17. William owned 145 acres of land. The whole family was born in England, and imigrated directly to Kansas from England. That is all the information I wrote down. Hope it may help another Laws researcher. Born 1922 in Iowa to William and Daisy Willey Laws - brothers William and Frank, sister Margaret - all deceased. Live in St George, UT and thoroughly enjoy it as is scenic, has many activities available to all ages and can get out all year round. The Laws Family settled first in Streator, IL [1877-1883?] then Excelsior, Mahaska Co, IA so am pretty current in that area. The bottleneck has been England as all the family records were burned when the family home burned down. When I finally got interested most of those with memories of England were dead. I "own" a couple of surname discussion lists, Sutton and Brinson, and it's disappointing that many people don't share their success stories. It would give others hope that they, some day, will make an online connection. These family discussion lists are *powerful* research tools. Jean, I was born almost 69 years ago in Hartford, Kansas, but I don't personally know Floyd, although I've knocked on his door a couple of times when he wasn't home. My cousins told me he is a very nice man. I grew up in nearby Emporia, worked at The Gazette, and was elected to the Kansas Legislature when I was 21. At age 25, I managed Gov. George Docking's first statewide campaign. We moved to California when I was about 30, but we visit Kansas four or five times a year. I retired from the Los Angeles Times about six years ago. Floyd is one of my best sources of Sutton family history -- and, yes, he writes everything out by long hand -- on both sides of the paper. I found him through a researcher, Elsie David, in Salem, Oregon, who has no direct ties to either of us. She is, as far as I'm concerned, the premiere researcher of the Sutton surname, having worked at it more than 30 years. (Thanks, to Floyd, <grin> she's probably an expert on LAWS, too!) Passing the following along in hopes it may help someone! From the Deseret News - Salt Lake City, Utah September 17, 1997 Margaret B. Stevens Holden--- Margaret B. Stevens, age 85, died Sept. 15,1997 at her residence in St George. She wasborn may 4, 1912 in Seevers (Jasper Co) Iowa to William and Daisy Willey Laws. She married George Bebout, Nov 5, 1935 in Des Moines; he died Aug 7, 1956. She married Milton Stevens Dec. 6, 1960 in the Manti LDS Temple; he died March 20, 1990. Survived by children: Gene Bebout, St George; Dorothy (Gordon) Gabbert, Farmington; Glade (JoLynn) Stevens and Gary (Sarah) Stevens both of Fillmore; Don (Ann) Stevens, Liberty MO; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister Virginia Laws, St George; sister-in-law Pauline Laws, San Francisco CA. Preceeded in death by a grand daughter and two brothers.. Funeral services will be held Friday Sept 19, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. on the Holden LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call from 9:45-10:45a.m. Burial will take place in the Fillmore City Cemetery under the direction of the Olpin Mortuary, Fillmore.
