    2. I have this affliction....genealogy.....it's like a virus that just won't quit. When I think I'm getting better, someone calls with a question, or a kid has a school project on history and families, and I suddenly get a relapse. This internet is not helping. Now I can't put it down. I log on 2-3 times a day to see my mail while I should be working. Often as not, there is something about someone for which I must multi-task over to my Family Origins Program to check out, corroborate, and occasionally add data. Trouble is, it is almost as much fun passing this sickness along as it is having a relapse. Anyway, the families I am most interested in include LAW, WILLIS, LAWSON, COCKERHAM, & LARKINS; all on my maternal side before 1750 in Virginia. The Law family from which I am derived migrated form Westover on the James River (1677) to Halifax County along the Bannister River to Pittsylvania County - now renamed Frankllin County near Rocky Mount VA. From there the family migrated to Kentucky (briefly) and finally settled in South Central Indiana near the very small town of Deputy IN. Austin, IN is the closest town of any size and eventually most of the family moved there or to the nearby towns of Scottsburg, Sellersburg, Henryville or Charlestown. On my paternal side, specifically the WOOD Surname, I am having a bit more difficulty. Other surnames include, WEIBEL, WETZEL, ELSASSER, BENTON and BILBY. Data goes back to 1779 but there is little info other than names in the direct line of ancestry. My branch of the Wood family goes back 6 generations in Clermont County Ohio. Most of the family still lives in the Cincinatti area. There have been several losses of records due to courthouse fires, making the search more difficult and the need for comprehensive and reliable connections more important. Thanks for the opportunity to join up. I believe that my Uncle, genealogical mentor, and fellow researcher Merril Law will be aboard this ship of Law(s) soon. He will have much more to offer than I do, but if any of you know him already, (he's been at this for over 10 years, has written a book called Laws of the Land, and has about 6000 Laws in his database now)....anyway, if any of you know him, drop him a note at [email protected] He bought a computer at 70 to do genealogical research. He was coerced into getting online (Prodigy) and has enjoyed that greatly for about 6 years. Now he is a bit reluctant to leap into the internet. He has had some difficulty in getting aboard and his searches have left something to be desired. In fact, if I were there in Indiana, I'd sign him up and he would have unfathomable fun with this new tool. With any luck, his daughter will get him on board when she visits from Ohio in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, WEBMASTER, if you can sign someone up, please add - SUBSCRIBE [email protected] to your list. He wants to be here. I know I'm glad I'm here, and he has this genealogy bug worse/better than I do. Tony Wood

I have not looked this up, but the phrase "migrated to Kentucky (briefly)" could also be a signal that the family lived in that part of KY that was once and (briefly) known as the state of Franklin. This is something I learned at a genealogy seminar many years ago. > Hope this helps. 1. LAW, Carlisle Filmore, b. ca. 1860
    2. Hello; While I was preparing this descendancy chart for the KEISTER mailing list, I found Carlisle Filmore LAW b. ca. 1860 and William Law RYMER b. ca. 1921. Because of the late dates, I do not have a clue as to where either person was born. The KEISTER lines resided mostly in Pendleton Co., VA, now WV and the father-in-law of Carlisle Filmore LAW went to Gilmer Co., VA, now WV as a child. Most of this information was found online at the URL below. 2. Tony, In the Taber lineage I have Spoon, Mansfield, Talton, Smith, Booth, Watkins----none of the names you have given me. Most of my names are from the second half of the 1800's as far as birth dates. Birth places in Kentucky, Missouri, and one in Tennesse. Are you telling me that the Laws family and the Taber family were previously connected in the past? Susan Laws Taber [email protected]

    2. Linda Schwartz You wrote of a Laws family that originated in Va.I believe that you wrote that there was a Jeremiah Laws Born 1760 in VA. Do you have any further information on his ancestors? I am looking for the parents of David Law who married Avarilla Willis in Piuttsylavania county in Dec.1790. He would be old enough to be Jeremiah's brother or cousin( by extrapolation he was born before 1770). It is a stretch but I am looking for any help.Even if you know what countyof VA Jeremiah was born it would be a help. If there are source books that you have checked for this family I would be interested, too. Thanks Susan Chiarello
