You have written: >>Thank You for this information. Do you have anymore info on his family. My >grandfather Leonard Laws had a brother Dallas Laws. Was he from the Lenior, >NC area? Please let me know. I do not know this person. I got the obit from the GEN-OBIT mailing list. I try to scan for any LAWS and post any I find to the list. My husband's mother was a LAWS - thus my interest in the surname. Her family was from Yancey Co. - then moved to Rutherford and Cleveland Counties, NC. You might try contacting the funeral home listed in the obit for further information. You might be able to find the funeral home telephone number on this web site: http://www.555-1212.com or http://www.switchboard.com Good luck! Looking for information on my g grandmother, Mary Ann Laws, b. abt. 1849 in Alabama. She married Francis "Frank" Marion Bishop on 8-13-1865 in Maury Co. TN. She died 6-11-1896 in Perry Co. TN. Little is known of her parents, other than her mother's name was "Polly" which is a nickname for "Mary". It is suspected, but not proven, that her father might be Burrell Laws, who was married to "Polly", birth name unknown. In the 1880 census she list her father's birthplace as KY and her mother's as VA. She may be related to the Laws and Ramsey's in Lauderdale Co. AL who are shown in the 1860 Census. There is a John Ramsey who's wife is listed as Evaline and Evaline is born in KY. All of their children have the surname Laws, except the two youngest, which is Ramsey, but Mary Ann Laws is not found in 1860. Why I think they are related, is that in the 1870 census for Maury Co. TN, Mary Ann is listed with Frank Bishop, and these same Laws and Ramsey's from Lauderdale Co. AL are now in Maury Co. TN living all around here. I suspect there is a connection, but can't prove it. I have been following different Law families in this group who moved through KY and TN. Does anyone have a connection for them to Burrell Laws? I am really stuck on this line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Mark Fain

1. William Welcom(b) LAWS (b. ? in Buncom Co., NC; d. ? near Jonesboro, TN?) I have been gone for 2 weeks, and just found this note. This William Welcome Laws must be the son of William Laws from Wilkes Co. I have William's will, but not much else on him. Sandy McSpadden.
My great-great-grandfather was an LDS convert who immigrated from England. His name was Charles Law (1832-1862), born in South Heindley, Yorkshire. He converted around 1856 and immigrated in 1857 to Utah. His wife didn't convert or immigrate. I have further information if this of interest to you.
Linda: Sorry I can not help you on your search of the Laws. I have seen jeremia and Shadrack and others named while researching my family at the LDS FHC. Very well they may have been related from some lines of my LAWs that came to N.C/ about 1798. They left Va. about then and my line went to Ky. and sfter a few years moved across the Ohio River to Jefferson Co. Indiana before Indiana was a state in 1816. If you have never been to a FHC you would be surprozed at how much info they have. Ofcourse it is not all correct, but it can give you a line to start searching to verify what they have. I will look thru my old notes and see if I can come up with anything. I doubt it. I thank you for getting touch with me. BYE [email protected]
Merrill, You mentioned that David was the son of John, Sr and the brother of Jesse. Did they marry sisters? I think so but have not gotten any proof. I have seen other researchers notes who say that they were siblings but did not mention the source for this remark.. Since as I mentionedearlier i have researchedthisin Franklin and pittsylvania Counties and been unable to prove the realtionship between David and John, Sr. was there achancery suit for thedivision of John's lands? All information is greatly appreciated. Thanks Susan in CT
