Bart, I am looking for proof that David L aw who married Avarilla Willis was the (possibly) youngest son of John Law Sr. of Pittsylvbania nd Franklin County VA . Does your line descend form John(I noticed that you had a David in the family)? Many researchers list David as the son of John ,yet none can provide what the proof is for this assumption. John Law's will is non extant. David was born 1764 in Halifax and died the father of three daighters in Pittsylvania County 1845. I realize that this is a strretch but could not pass up the possibility. Susan Chiarello in Ct.
Dear Bart, Bless you!!! This is the most information on the parents and siblings of my James Law that I have ever found. As for your most gracious offer of more information on antecendants and descendants, frankly I need EVERYTHING!!! Or, seriously, as much as you care to take the trouble to share, I know "everything" is a bit of a tall order! My information pretty much stops with James, doesn't go back any further. And I don't have anything on his siblings but the little bit of info on Isaiah that I mentioned. If it would be easier for you to send snail mail, I have included my address below and would, naturally, be glad to reimburse for copying, postage costs. I would really love to have a copy of the LWT of George Law, if you have it. I had been unable to find any abstracts of it at my local library or at the larger Mobile, AL genealogy library. I found an abstract regarding the division of estate of Zachariah Norwood in Darlington District, SC. It mentions a Robert Law and Hannah Norwood, his wife. This was in the Deep South Genealogical Quartery, which is published by the Mobile Co (AL) Genealogical Society. I have always wondered if this wasn't connected to my Law family in some way, because there were also Norwoods in the Marengo/Clarke Co, AL area. The son of my John Barron (whose dau, Lucretia C. Law md Robert R. Law, my ancestors) md Rebecca Norwood in 1848 in Clarke or Marengo Co (can't find my note as to location at the moment). Do you know if this connects to my Law family? I would be interested in knowing your connection, are you a descendant of James or one of his siblings? I would be so very grateful for any information that you could share, this is the best break that I've gotten in regards to James' ancestry and siblings. I do appreciate your going to the trouble to help. Sincerely Sherry Owens [email protected] P.O. Box 8065 Moss Point, MS 39562

Just passing along some notes that were posted to the LOVELACE-L recently. Several folks on that list have interest in the Wilkes County, NC LAWS family since Ann Laws married John Lovelace of Wilkes.
Sherry Owens has written: >Thank you for your welcome, Wanda. It looks as though you and I may >be researching some of the same families. My ancestor is James Law, >b ca 1782 SC, md Sarah Washburn (b ca 1783), dau of Gabriel and >Priscilla Jane McSwain Washburn. I am aware of the James Law line in that it relates to the Washburns but I have never found a connection to the LAWS line that I am researching in the Yancey and Rutherford County areas. The line I am researching is my mother-in-law's family. I descend from a long line of Hamricks, McSwains, etc. from Cleveland and Rutherford County that related to the Gabriel Washburn line. In my researching of that family, I became aware of the James Law family. I will look through my files and see if I have any other information that would help you. If not, maybe someone else on here will be able to help. Here is a family group sheet of the LAWS line I am trying to research. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it! Hi Wanda and all, Thank you for your welcome, Wanda. It looks as though you and I may be researching some of the same families. My ancestor is James Law, b ca 1782 SC, md Sarah Washburn (b ca 1783), dau of Gabriel and Priscilla Jane McSwain Washburn. I am descended from their son, Robert R. Law (b ca 1813, who md (13 Jan 1839 Marengo Co, AL) Lucretia C. Barron (b ca 1823 AL). Lucretia was the dau of John and Mary Hume Barron. I have seen information at LDS Family History Center that James' parents were George Law and Ann Lord, can anyone confirm or deny this, I've never been able to find proof. Nor have I found record of James and Sarah Washburn Law's marriage, but do believe that I am correct about her being his wife. I believe that James Law had a brother named Isaiah, who md Margaret Washburn, sister of Sarah. But I have heard that some believe James also md Margaret. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would like to hear them. I find a marriage for Isaiah Law and Margaret Washburn for 3 Jan 1808 in "Marriage Records of NC, 1779-1868". Apparently, Brent Washurne's new book "Washburn Family in America" has James md to both Sarah and Margaret. I have seen information that states that James md a Frances Lynam (accuracy of report unknown to me, it said that she was widowed mother of William James Compton who did marry Agnes Ann Law, dau of James) about 1837 (Sarah d abt 1835). I have found a date for his marriage to Rebecca Seals (30 May 1841 Marengo Co, AL), so don't know when he was supposed to have fit a marriage in to Margaret. (Was Rebecca widow of John Seals, and a Johnson by birth?) I'd love to hear from anyone researching these families and would love to hear some information on your line, Wanda. Would also love to have ancestry of John Barron and Mary Hume, if anyone has this information. The Barron and Hume lines have been very difficult for me. Sorry to make such a long post, but I had so many points I wanted to cover! Merry Christmas to all, Sherry Owens [email protected]

Data I have on William Laws of Wilks Co., N.C. (more than one): 1) Dec., 1779 - William Laws entered land request for 100 acres on Lewis Branch, later marked out and entered by a John Wilson. 2) 5 Dec. 1779 - William Laws a juror 3) 6 March, 1780 - Will of William Laws read in court (written 7 Jan., 1780)..in this will he mentions his daughter Ann Lovelace. Wilcom William Laws and John Laws Sr. qualified as executors. 4) A William Laws entered request for 100 acres on Moravian Creek (originally entered by Micajah Lewis but crossed out). 23 Oct. 1786 - Letters of administration granted to Amelia Laws, widow of William Welcom Laws, dec'd. 7 Sept., 1792 - Deed mentions William Laws line 3 Nov., 1795 - Deed between David Laws and John Wilson of Pittsylvania Co., Va.; 150 acres on Middle Fork of Moravian Creek, Issac Laws line. Wit. William Laws, etc. This was the date it was entered in the Wilks Co. Record...a look at the original may show an earlier date for when this deed was actually done...also a check in the Pittsylvania Co., Va. records would show this deed and exact date. There does seem to be a strong connection between the Pittslyvania Co, Va. Laws and Wilks Co. Laws; if so, could this include John Lovelace of Wilks Co. and the Va. line too???????
