    2. MR MERRIL LAW
    3. John Patrick Laws. Yes, John. Evandor was quiet a General in the Civil War. After the war he settled down in central Florida and was publisher of a fine news paper. My mother was a Burnside and at the battle of South Anna Gen. Law faced Gen Ambrose Burnside in a very intensive battle. After much fighting both sides withdrew and went away. It was pretty much a draw as far as that particular battle was conserend but in the overall picture it was very important. The battle of South Anna delayed Evandor Law from reaching Gettysburg with his troops in time to help Gen. Robert E. Lee so Lee lost Gettysburg. Can I help you with anything else??? I read a year ago that someone was researching his life to write a biography but have not seen the book yet. Anyway, his father Ezekiel Augustus B. 8 July 1809, M 21 dec 1833 Sarah Elizabeth McIver (B 3 April 1815- D 28 June 1885) D 27 July 1882. Ezekiel was the 8th child of of William Law II of Darlington SC, B 1763, possibly on the ship Prince Henry in transit to Charleston from Ulster-North Ireland. William married Mary Dubose, daughter of Elias Dubose on 13 January 1791. William died 18 Oct. 1812. William II was the son of William I B ? possibly in County Down, Northern Ireland and arrived in Charleston with his wife Martha and several children in 1764. William I died prior to 4 March 1786 when his will was probated. Much of this information is published in several different books. 3. Dear Pam, I have wonderful news for you - HELLO COUSIN!!!!!!! There is a good reason this story rings a bell. I believe P.V. is your great-great-grandfather! Plesant View LAW (b. 1829/1830 ARK? ) married his first wife, Elizabeth LAYTON (b. 1836/1837, d. 1873), on April 22, 1854. They had a total of six children. 1. George A. LAW (my ancestor) - b. 1855, IND d. 1929 ILL married Sarah McBROOM 2. Anna M. LAW - b. Oct. 19, 1856 IND d. April 23, 1918 Newtown IND married Henry M. Dagger Feb. 19, 1874 Fountain Co. IND 3. Arkansas (Arkanco, Arkanso) LAW - b. 1858 IND 4. Theodore LAW - b. 1860 IND 5. America A. LAW - b. 1862 IND 6. Evaline LAW - b. 1867 IND. P. V. married his second wife, Sarah PATRICK in 1874. My father has collected this information from several resources. He has a copy of P.V. and Elizabeth's marriage license and the marriage license of P. V. and Sarah. He also has a copy of the 1860 Fountain Co. Census and the 1870 Fountain Co, IND which shows this information. As to your 2x great grandmother, Elizabeth LAYTON. She is the daughter of Andrew or Samuel LAYTON and Eleanor OGLE. Eleanor OGLE's parents were Thomas OGLE and Anne ?? We do not have any dates on these people at this time, but the names were collected from census data. Back to P. V. - He was the oldest son in the family when he and his father went to IND to homestead. The father and son team took one and a half years to clear the land and build a home. Then the father returned to collect the family. What happen to the family after that is a mystery. The father had returned to New York and collected his family. However, the family must have either found a better spot and was unable to collect their son later or they were set upon by indians or Ohio River pirates, robbed and killed. Well, I hope you are as thrilled as I am to find someone seeking this branch! Welcome to the family!!!!!! TJ Hyatt [email protected]

    2. TJ Hyatt
    3. Hello everyone!! I have been watching the list for a few weeks in the hope of finding something that looked familiar. Well, it was a stupid thought. How would anyone know about my ancestor without my request for information? (Duh) My name is TJ Hyatt. I am looking for my 3x great grandfather - Pleasant View LAW. My father has been working on him for years and has found little. The few actual, documented facts we have are: 1. We found a census that listed P. V. LAW as born in ARK, circa 1829/1830. 2. He married Elizabeth LAYTON (probably in IND) on April 22, 1854. 3. They had at least one son - George LAW. 4. He was a farmer and later in life ran for public office. 5. He was a member of the Masons. 6. He lived in IND for most of his life. As for the family lore, it goes like this: As a child, Pleasant View and his father (name unknown) left their home from "out east" (believed to be New York) and went to Indiana to homestead. Once they found a location (the exact place has been lost over time), they cleared it, built a house and became residents, all the requirements needed to retain their claim. The father soon left to return to New York and collect the family, leaving Pleasant View, a young boy about 10 years old, as the resident in order to keep their claim. The father and the family never returned. As an old man, Pleasant View returned to the area in New York from whence they came. After speaking with several friends, neighbors, and relatives, he discovered that the family had packed up and left. However, they had never arrived at the homestead. It was believed they had been killed by indians on their way. This story and the actual information is all we know of this ancestor. If anyone knows anything of this story, I would LOVE to hear from you! We are at a complete wall with this gentleman. Thank you! TJ Hyatt Myrtle Beach, SC
